About The Position

This position is for the 2026-27 academic year within the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media at Seton Hall University. The Graduate Assistant will provide support in various areas including administrative tasks, communications, event planning, student association support, community outreach, and faculty assistance. The role involves creating content, maintaining websites, managing social media, and supporting student success initiatives. The position requires a commitment of 20 hours per week on campus and may occasionally involve night and weekend activities.

Requirements

  • Acceptance into a graduate-level program at Seton Hall University.
  • Applicants must be new to their graduate program or have at least two years of coursework remaining.
  • Understanding and willingness to support the Seton Hall University Catholic mission.
  • Maintain 20-hour on-campus weekly work schedule.
  • Specific schedule is coordinated with graduate assistant’s supervisor and is subject to change, with advance notice.
  • On occasion, participation in night and weekend activities may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Mandatory administrative office coverage in the Office of the Dean, Fahy Hall, Office of Student Success, Television Studio and other locations as assigned.
  • News, Feature and Press Release writing – interview and draft copy for multi-level review. The candidate should be familiar with AP and the University style guide requirements.
  • Partner with College-level administrators to suggest ways to integrate content across social media channels.
  • Event Planning/Support – assist with the organization and preparation of the College and Graduate Studies events. Required attendance and participation at related events such as Undergraduate Open Houses (October, November, February, April), Graduate Open House (February), Pirate Preview (April), Graduate Commencement (May), Graduate Orientation (August and January), association conferences and more. Events and dates are subject to additions and changes, with advance notice.
  • Graduate Student Association (GSA) – serve in a student leadership capacity and support the GSA by drafting pre- and post-event publicity and assisting with the planning and implementation of student-centered programming and initiatives.
  • Community outreach – brainstorm, research and propose opportunities to partner with external stakeholders regarding college initiatives.
  • Faculty support and research assistance – assist faculty within the College with lecture materials, research and other initiatives, as directed by immediate supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Marketing and Communications – solicit, moderate, and create original content for newsletters that is sent to the College and University community.
  • Assists with student support, including brainstorm, research and propose ideas and resources to support student success.
  • Website maintenance management – monitor and update content on the College microsite and other maintenance as assigned.
  • Social Media – content creation and collaboration with the Colleges student organizations, faculty and other related partners.
