About The Position

This is a full-time Graduate Assistant position, requiring 20 hours of work per week, with 7 positions available. The role involves providing one-on-one academic tutoring to H.E.L.P. students, focusing on teaching and reteaching concepts. Responsibilities include assisting students in developing effective study strategies, creating personalized study plans, and helping them develop a schedule for study sessions. The assistant will also clarify and augment student notes from lectures, employ multi-sensory techniques for enhanced understanding and recall, and teach organization and time management skills. Progress monitoring will be conducted through communication with students and professors. Additionally, the role requires sending legal notifications to professors regarding students with disabilities and accommodations, organizing and facilitating testing accommodations in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Vocational Rehabilitation Act, and proctoring exams under staff supervision. Maintaining student attendance records, notifying students and parents about absences, and writing End of Semester Reports for each student are also key duties. Participation in weekly tutor training and development sessions is expected.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one academic tutoring to teach and reteach concepts to H.E.L.P. students.
  • Offer assistance with developing study strategies.
  • Work with students to develop a plan that fits the student’s individual needs.
  • Assist students in developing a schedule for study sessions.
  • Clarify/augment student notes from lecture.
  • Teach concepts using multi-sensory techniques to maximize student understanding and recall.
  • Teach organization and time managements skills.
  • Monitor students’ progress through communication with students and professors.
  • Send legal notification to professors regarding students’ with disabilities and accommodations.
  • Organize and facilitate testing accommodations according to students’ diagnosis for compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act and Vocational Rehabilitation Act.
  • Proctor exams under the supervision of staff monitor.
  • Maintain student attendance records.
  • Notify students and parents regarding students’ absences from tutoring sessions.
