About The Position

Saginaw Valley State University, a Division II member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), invites applications for the position of Graduate Assistant for Women's Tennis. Under the direction of the Head Women's Tennis Coach, this position will assist with the daily operations of the program, including practice planning and execution, student-athlete development, recruiting activities, team travel coordination, and other program-related responsibilities. The Graduate Assistant will support the continued success of the Women's Tennis program while gaining valuable experience in collegiate athletics administration and coaching. This appointment is for a maximum of two calendar years. Graduate Assistants are required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week. During the fall and winter semesters, work hours may not exceed 24 hours per week. During the spring and summer semesters, Graduate Assistants may work up to, but not exceed, 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Currently admitted to a graduate program or eligible and intending to apply upon accepting the offer
  • Knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation.
  • Willingness to travel and work nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to all applicable NCAA and conference compliance rules and regulations.
  • Assist the head coach in supporting compliance with applicable institutional, conference, and NCAA regulations.
  • Promote awareness of and adherence to institutional, conference, and NCAA regulations among student-athletes.
  • Abides by NCAA Bylaws 10.1 and 11.1 regarding ethical conduct and the responsibility to positively contribute to a campus culture of NCAA rules compliance.
  • Responsible for promoting a positive academic environment to encourage all athletes to strive for academic excellence.
  • Assist in preparing and executing practice and game plans, strategies and alternatives which are designed to bring success to the program.
  • Providing moral support and encouragement.
  • Support a safe and positive environment for student-athletes and promptly communicate concerns to supervisory staff.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining community and alumni relationships that support the program.
  • Assisting in the purchase, maintenance and inventory of uniforms and equipment.
  • Assist with recruiting activities, communications, and event coordination.
  • Assist in designing and implementing off season training programs for student-athletes.
  • Assist in all fundraising needs for the program.
  • Maintain appropriate communications with student-athletes and parents.
  • Assist in the planning of banquets, fund raising efforts and other activities which promote the program.
  • Assist in managing travel arrangements for the team.
  • Assist with promoting, operating and coordinating summer camps.
  • Perform related and other duties as assigned by Head Coach and Athletic Administration
  • Assist in occasional facilities and event operations as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Events.
