About The Position

This position is available only to enrolled American University students. The Graduate Assistant to Online Program Directors (10-20 hours/week, year-round) supports online program directors, faculty, and academic staff with preparing and maintaining our online courseware; arranging practicum and residency activities; conducting program assessment actions; and other tasks related to program administration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Current graduate student status.
  • 0-2 years of experience with related tasks.
  • Experience with Canvas content administration and development.
  • Experience with data management and visualization in Excel.
  • Basic comfort with data analysis software such as SPSS, Stata, or R.
  • Responsiveness using effective written communication and shared file management.
  • Ability to work independently with guidance and ask questions when needed.
  • Ability to work remotely with (as needed) select on-site responsibilities.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and task completion.
  • Ability to follow and report on established processes and checklists.
  • Commitment to providing courteous and responsive support to faculty and staff.

  • Preference for those students who reside in the DMV area.

Responsibilities

  • Term-over term course setup and content management: Copy course materials from primary into live Canvas courses; adjust course schedules and due dates; inspect for dysfunctions, broken links, and embedded materials; and publish student-ready content. Administer minor course updates.
  • Maintenance of MPAP/CTHS Student Central and LinkedIn groups: Enroll new students, develop and update content, and support the drafting of announcements; support the completion of New Student Orientation activities in the Student Central.
  • Administrative and research support: Support program assessment, including administration of student exit surveys and analysis and reporting on relevant assessment metrics; review program web content and assist recruitment of students, under guidance of SPA’s Office of Graduate Enrollment; and inform other administrative functions.
  • MPAP practicum and CTHS residency support: Support, track, and assess MPAP practicum and CTHS residency activities and alumni networks with guidance from online program directors and SPA events team.
