About The Position

Student Experience is a division of HPU’s Office of Student Life that strives to foster a welcoming and engaging environment for all students that facilitates personal growth and development, a strong sense of campus community, and social engagement. For the scope of this position, the Student Experience team oversees the on-campus cinema & arcade facilities, as well as related student programming. As a graduate employee, you will gain experience in leadership, management, problem-solving, event planning, marketing, customer service, and interpersonal communication. Graduate Assistants in this role will oversee both the arcade & cinema facilities, in addition to all undergraduate students employed on the arcade & cinema team. This person will also assist with planning & executing programs in the arcade and cinema facilities. All Graduate Assistants will represent the Student Experience team in a positive and enthusiastic manner. The Student Experience team aims to hire two graduate assistants for 2024 – 2025.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Must be enrolled in a graduate program at High Point University for the 2024-2025 academic year.
  • Good standing with Community Standards, if applicable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products is necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of customer service in a professional setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of HPU and understanding of the university’s culture is preferred.
  • 1 year of activities and programming experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2.5 overall GPA.
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions independently; must have a “figure-it-out” mentality.
  • Self-starter working with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills and resourcefulness.
  • Graphic design, social media, and web design.
  • Current or previous involvement with on-campus clubs or organizations.
  • Marketing skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers the HPU experience through face-to-face interactions, phone calls, emails, and social media.
  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of and readily utilizes university resources and services.
  • Assists with recruiting, hiring, and managing team of undergraduate student employees.
  • Creates and posts work schedule [in Teams] for facility assistants & coordinators to ensure that all operational hours are covered, and that both special events and movie showings are well-staffed.
  • Monitors weekly coverage and ensures that all employees are arriving & leaving on time, and that all shifts are covered.
  • Supervises student employees and ensures that job requirements are being met; including, but not limited to movies starting on time, facility closing procedures, etc.
  • Understanding that GA will assist students with finding shift coverage and will ultimately cover any unstaffed shift [around class schedule] if cover if not found.
  • Ability to serve as on-call and address any issues in a timely manner during operational hours [except for during class time]
  • Understands team policies including, but not limited to attendance and dress code, leads by example in abiding by each.
  • Enforces attendance policy for undergraduate student employees, logging all infractions and hosting check-ins as needed.
  • Commitment to continually sharing updates and following up with employees to ensure understanding.
  • Commitment to ongoing training and development of undergraduate student employees.
  • Assist with design and hosting of mandatory team training.
  • Assists supervisor with planning & hosting monthly team meetings.
  • Maintains the arcade & cinema facilities, ensuring that all equipment is functioning, cleanliness and operational standards are always met, and that supplies remain stocked.
  • Commitment to addressing facility maintenance or technological needs in a timely manner; & following up.
  • Commitment to keep supervisor updated on all need-to-know information including, but not limited to maintenance concerns, employee issues/concerns, needed supplies, new ideas for improvement, summary of office hours, and progress on projects/tasks.
  • Assists and/or independently oversees events and activities in arcade & cinema facilities, including but not limited to golf simulator tournaments, special movie events, other gaming competitions, and karaoke nights.
  • Assists with the implementation of Summer Advantage events during the program [June-July].
  • Ensures that employees are correctly recording metrics during each shift [passport swipes for movie attendance, game usage, etc.]
  • Reviews [regularly] arcade/cinema feedback surveys and summarizes findings to share with supervisor.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the university calendar, important deadlines, university processes and policies.
  • Recognizes sensitive internal information and exercises complete discretion when assisting in private matters.
  • Collaborates with members of the Student Experience team to ensure a quick resolution to any issues or concerns.
  • Executes multiple projects and job functions with efficiency.
  • Ability to communicate in a positive, professional manner.
  • Ability to focus on details and prioritize tasks.
  • Works with a sense of urgency while maintaining composure.
  • Other duties as assigned.
