About The Position

Ottawa University is seeking a Graduate Assistant to provide support to Sports Information programming for intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports programs within the division of Athletics. This role involves external sports media, internal sports information management, and public relations programming specific to University athletic programs.

Requirements

  • Must be accepted and enrolled in an Ottawa University graduate program.
  • Completed online admissions application.
  • Submission of official undergraduate transcripts (3.0 GPA – minimum requirement) earned bachelor’s degree.
  • Submission of a personal statement regarding career goals and three professional references.
  • Eligible to work in the United States and present proper documentation to the Human Resources Department prior to beginning graduate assistantship.
  • Knowledge of DakStats and Stat Crew required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining statistical records, knowledge of DakStats and Stat Crew required.
  • Assist with writing, editing, and the distribution of all athletic press releases, media guides, and game statistics.
  • Manage staff/student-athletic profiles as well as student-athlete award nominations within conference and NAIA requirements and protocol.
  • Assist in the design and maintenance of the OUAZ athletic website, ensuring it is maintained in a timely, accurate, and approved format.
  • Assist in overseeing social media platforms.
  • Assist in the design, production, and distribution of all programs and publications, including photo and video editing, photographing, and production of department publications and video content.
  • Assist in supervising, hiring, and training staff for all regular season and post-season home sports events and selected road sport events to cover statistical recording and documentation of information through student work study staff, graduate assistantships, and/or other contract-related assignments.
  • Represent the University as a member and report to the NAIA, KCAC, or other affiliated conferences.
  • Attend all meetings; participate and take leadership within these groups, including holding applicable offices.
  • Comply with all conference and NAIA guidelines governing sports information.
  • Coordinate with coaches the nominations for conference and NAIA player honors.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of promotion strategies for home athletics events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics Communications.
  • Model and encourage collaboration among University departments, assuring effective communication and operations.
  • Understand the University’s policies and procedures, and exercise good judgment accordingly.
  • Assure that University and student information is managed in a confidential and ethical manner in accordance with the University’s Code of Conduct and Ethics.
  • Provide leadership through conduct, attitude, and professionalism.
  • Represent the University to students, external groups, faculty, and staff in a way that reflects positively on the University.
