About The Position

Grand Canyon University is seeking a Graduate Assistant to support the Head Coach in operating a Division I program. This role involves coaching assistance, recruiting, program promotion, event coordination, equipment management, and ensuring NCAA/university compliance. The graduate assistant will also be responsible for planning and organizing program activities, collaborating with internal contacts, and performing other duties as assigned. This position requires upholding the University's Student Code of Conduct and provides a positive example to students by supporting GCU's Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement, and Mission.

Requirements

  • Be admitted to a graduate degree seeking program at GCU. (Certificate only programs do not satisfy this requirement.)
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0. (If a student is newly admitted to the University, the admission GPA is considered for this requirement.)
  • A student must also maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during their employment.
  • Be enrolled in as a “regular” (not provisional) degree-seeking student for at least 6 graduate level units leading to the degree. (Undergraduate or audited courses do not satisfy this requirement.)
  • Hiring departments may require a higher enrollment.
  • Assistantships may be revoked at any time duties are not fulfilled satisfactorily.
  • Graduate assistants assume responsibility for upholding the University’s Student Code of Conduct.
  • Graduate Assistants must follow the HR employment workflow processes and pre-employment background checks.
  • After all degree requirements for the planned program of study are met, a student is no longer eligible to receive a graduate assistantship.
  • “Incomplete” grades must be removed during the period following the teaching period in which the “I” was recorded in order to continue the assistantship.
  • Must be willing to work when necessary beyond normal business hours, which will require travel with the teams as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach with all aspects of coaching a Division I intercollegiate program.
  • Recruitment of talented student-athletes.
  • General promotion and development of the sports program.
  • Comply with NCAA rules, University policies and department guidelines.
  • Assist with team community service projects, special events and camps.
  • Maintain storage space including team equipment, props, and apparel items.
  • Responsible for planning and organizing the activities of an assigned program, project, unit or function and ensuring the activities’ infrastructure is in place.
  • Partner and collaborate with various internal contacts, or customers, to coordinate activities, promote and encourage cooperation of submission or collection of information/data, products or services or process improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.
