About The Position

The Graduate Assistant for Ice Hockey plays a pivotal role in supporting the coaching staff and contributing to the overall success of the ice hockey program at the collegiate level. This position is designed to provide graduate students with hands-on experience in athletic coaching, team management, and sports administration while pursuing their advanced degree. The Graduate Assistant will assist in planning and conducting practices, analyzing game footage, and helping with player development to enhance team performance. Additionally, the role involves administrative duties such as coordinating travel, managing equipment, and supporting recruitment efforts. Ultimately, this position aims to develop the candidate’s professional skills in sports management and coaching within a competitive collegiate environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Acceptance into a graduate program at the university offering the assistantship.
• Demonstrated knowledge of ice hockey rules, strategies, and training techniques.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as required by the team schedule.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience playing or coaching ice hockey at the collegiate or club level.
• Experience with video analysis software and performance tracking tools.
• Background in sports science, kinesiology, or a related field.
• Familiarity with NCAA compliance and recruiting processes.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach and coaching staff in planning and conducting daily practices and training sessions.
• Analyze game and practice footage to provide feedback and strategic insights to players and coaches.
• Support player development through individualized training programs and performance monitoring.
• Manage logistical tasks including coordinating team travel, scheduling, and equipment maintenance.
• Contribute to recruiting efforts by evaluating prospective student-athletes and assisting with communication.
• Maintain compliance with NCAA regulations and university policies related to the athletic program.
• Participate in team meetings, video sessions, and other activities to support overall team strategy and cohesion.
