About The Position

Ottawa University (established in 1865), one of the oldest private liberal arts universities in the United States, is a multi-campus system serving approximately 4000 students through its campuses in Kansas (Ottawa, Kansas- Residential Campus and Overland Park, Kansas- Adult Programs); Arizona (Surprise Residential Campus and OUAZ Adult Programs); Wisconsin (Brookfield Adult Programs); and our OU ONLINE PROGRAM based out of Overland Park, Kansas. Ottawa University is a regionally accredited, church-related, private university that strives to integrate faith, learning, and life in the academic experiences of students. JOB SUMMARY Position assists the University Chaplain in faith programming and leadership for all installations of Ottawa University (including virtual and adult learners). In addition to the overall university faith element, this position is also responsible for all aspects of barrier reduction and assistance programming for faculty, students and staff and coordination of events which are sponsored or supported by the Fredrikson Center; the American Baptist Churches and community faith and civic partners. The position will also serve and support the faith needs of current students, faculty, staff, board, and alumni as requested and/or needed.

Requirements

  • Earned bachelor’s degree.
  • Accepted to a qualified graduate degree program.
  • Any other required criteria established in the position posting.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of church leadership in the areas of Bible Study, worship or faith in action programming.
  • Outstanding writing, editing and presentation skills.
  • Must be creative, team-orientated and constituent-focused.
  • Must have the ability to set priorities and manage several projects at once with minimal supervision.
  • Resourceful and self-motivated.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Understanding of and appreciation for the mission of a church-and its application in relationship to the university.

Responsibilities

  • Support and organize monthly programming at the university’s residential and adult locations as well as online programming.
  • Work with churches and lay leaders inside and outside of the American Baptist denomination in order to support faith partnerships and expand the reach of the faith mission of Ottawa University.
  • Provide leadership and support for individual church(es’) programming.
  • Possess and demonstrate talents and skill to support prayer and worship service(s) events (pre-recorded, live and video streamed); including aspects of scripture, music and. worship leadership.
  • Provide leadership to those with whom you work through your conduct, attitude, professionalism and contagious joy.
  • Other duties as assigned
