About The Position

This position is available only to enrolled American University students. Most student positions at American University are eligible to use Federal Work Study (FWS) awards, with a few exceptions. FWS funds cannot be applied to janitorial, construction, partisan or sectarian positions. For information or questions regarding FWS funds, please contact American University's. The AU Abroad Office seeks a highly motivated candidate to serve as Graduate Student Administrative Assistant with a focus on the three AU program centers in Spain, Kenya, and Belgium. Responsibilities include assisting with and developing promotional activities for the three centers; assisting students with the visa process and providing support in understanding provided visa guidance, processing application materials; organizing additional activities for students such as pre-departure and alumni events; developing and maintaining program websites; establishing creative new outreach methods to engage with students in these three programs; maintaining AU Abroad’s social media platforms; maintaining the alumni database, and providing back up support for AU Abroad front desk operations. The Graduate Assistant will report to the AU Abroad Assistant Director.

Requirements

  • The incumbent must be an enrolled AU graduate student.
  • This position is for the 2026-2027 Academic Year and will be for up to 20 hours/week.
  • All hours require in-office presence.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate student with international experience preferred and a demonstrated interest in international education.
  • Strong attention to detail and reliability are essential for success.
  • Candidates should be patient, creative, able to work independently, have experience with data-entry, have experience organizing events for students, and be familiar with social media.
  • Experience previously working in a study abroad office or in a student-facing capacity is a plus.
  • Organizational skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Spanish preferred but not required.
  • The right candidate will have excellent customer service skills and be able to multi-task during peak volume times.
