About The Position

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Admissions, the Cameron University Graduate and Transfer Admissions Counselor is responsible for the recruitment, admission advisement, and matriculation of prospective graduate and transfer student populations within the University’s primary service area and beyond. This is an entry level position, located in Lawton, Oklahoma, that will support the enrollment goals of the institution by implementing effective admissions programs and procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university
• Two years of responsible employment history
• Strong attention to detail, especially as it relates to accurately recording and maintaining student information as well as in the development of communication and marketing efforts
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external partners and stakeholders
• Creative thinker with the capacity to analyze problem situations, identify feasible solutions, and present recommendations in a concise, logical, and systematic manner
• Ability to operate in an environment where change happens frequently
• Capability to communicate effectively with a wide array of audiences, both verbally and in writing
• Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision
• Experience working with and protecting sensitive student information and maintaining confidentiality including demonstrating understanding of regulations such as the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
• Demonstrated time-management skills and the ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects
• Strong presentation and public speaking skills

• Fluency in Spanish

Responsibilities

• Disseminating and effectively communicating admission requirements and procedures to prospective graduate and transfer students and their supporters, transfer institution and other community partners as well as University faculty and staff
• Providing knowledgeable and professional representation of Cameron University with students in groups, one-on-one, and during on- and off-campus events
• Facilitating the admission and matriculation process through various recruiting activities including, but not limited to, automated personalized communication, presentations, answering phone calls, responding to website inquiries, hosting in-person meetings, and visiting with community stakeholders
• Expanding prospective graduate and transfer student recruitment through lead generation, prospect guidance and matriculation assistance
• Maintaining knowledge of and connection with prospective graduate and transfer students, following through on leads, and maintaining records for the assigned recruiting territory in the Client Relationship Manager (CRM), Slate
• Working directly with advisors, faculty, and deans in each graduate degree field; businesses; and other constituencies to determine future recruiting possibilities
• Developing partnerships with undergraduate institutions and community colleges to identify potential graduate and transfer students and establish pathway opportunities
• Evaluating prospective students’ needs and building productive relationships by providing individualized assistance with educational goal identification, program selection, payment and financial aid planning, and paths to degree completion
• Corresponding professionally with students offering advice, resources, or referral to other campus resources
• Addressing issues and inquiries from prospective students and other members of the public in a timely and professional manner
• Coordinating with the Director of University Marketing in developing and implementing advertising campaigns targeting graduate and transfer students
• Maintaining the Cameron University Graduate Programs Social media accounts
• Collaborating with academic departments to ensure graduate recruitment materials accurately represent Cameron University and its academic programs
• Coordinating graduate recruitment initiatives with academic departments, ensuring prospective students receive accurate and timely information about programs, admission requirements, career opportunities, and degree completion
• Executing a structured outreach campaign to effectively discover the professional development needs for employees of our local business partners, with the goal of encouraging professional development and/or educational advancement
• Advising the Assistant Director of Admissions on significant matters related to the needs of graduate and transfer students
• Supporting team efforts by contributing information, accomplishing goals, monitoring competition, and gauging reactions from prospective students
• Assisting with processing admission applications and determining admissions eligibility for graduate and transfer students and coding them in the proper admission category based on Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) and Cameron University policies
• Creating a database record for each student by entering information in the student information system from source documents
• Ensuring an understanding of and compliance with the admission requirements, policies, and processes of OSHRE and Cameron University
• Remaining abreast of current issues in higher education and state and federal regulations related to college admissions, especially those related to Tribal students, by participating in professional organizations and professional development opportunities
• Participating in and championing general recruitment activities and events as needed in support of the University’s overall enrollment goals
• Attending and actively engaging in admissions training events and staff meetings
• Performing other related duties as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director of Admissions
