About The Position

Nah Tah Wahsh PSA is seeking a versatile and student-centered educator to teach General Science, Agricultural Education, and English in grades 6–12. This position supports interdisciplinary learning and emphasizes real-world application, literacy development, and environmental stewardship. Grounded in the values and culture of the Hannahville Indian Community, this role includes integrating Indigenous knowledge, local environmental practices, and culturally relevant teaching into daily instruction. The successful candidate will foster a learning environment that honors students’ identities, promotes academic growth, and connects classroom learning to community, land, and culture.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate (Science and/or English endorsement preferred; willingness to support multiple content areas required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and working with Native/Indigenous students and communities
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or interest in agricultural education, environmental science, or land-based learning preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver standards-based instruction in science, agriculture, and English/language arts
  • Design interdisciplinary learning experiences that connect literacy, science, and agricultural practices
  • Integrate Indigenous knowledge, land-based learning, and local environmental perspectives into instruction
  • Develop lessons that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that supports all learners
  • Build positive relationships with students and encourage active engagement in learning
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and learning styles
  • Promote student voice, collaboration, and responsibility for learning
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and guide instruction
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate progress regularly
  • Support student growth in both academic skills and practical application
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, share instructional strategies, and support school goals
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school improvement efforts
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of school grounds, community resources, including aquaponics and greenhouses, through the development and establishment of agricultural programming for students K-12.
  • Support co-curricular and extracurricular activities as assigned
  • Incorporate culturally relevant and sustaining practices into instruction
  • Engage with community members and local resources to enhance student learning
  • Support opportunities for students to connect learning to community, culture, and land stewardship
