About The Position

The Haggerty School seeks an experienced 4th-grade teacher to join their caring and innovative community for the 2026-2027 school year. The successful candidate will have experience planning, implementing, and adapting curriculum based on the Massachusetts State Frameworks. The candidate will set high expectations for all students and utilize scaffolding and differentiation to support students. The teacher will have an appreciation and awareness of the unique developmental needs of young people in this age band. As a professional, the teacher will display a collegial spirit that supports and enhances continual professional growth, consistent with the educational goals and philosophies of the MLK School, and be fully committed to continually learning, improving, reflecting, and working together as a community to ensure that all students achieve at high levels. Applicants with training in culturally responsive instruction are highly preferred. All candidates must be open to engaging in conversations about the intersection of race and education — critical conversations that ground our improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • Massachusetts State Elementary 1-6 teacher certification and SEI Endorsement
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience and practice teaching at the 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade level
  • At least 3 years of full-time classroom instruction
  • Demonstrated success in elevating the achievement levels of a diverse student body

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Training in culturally responsive instruction

Responsibilities

  • Teach all elementary subjects.
  • Implement the Wayfinder SEL model.
  • Collaborate closely with the other 4th-grade teacher.
  • Collaborate with all team members, including but not limited to the 4th-grade team, special educators, instructional coaches, paraprofessionals, interventionists, and other support personnel.
  • Incorporate a variety of assessment strategies, including district-wide exams and formative assessment, in order to inform instruction and target intervention and enrichment needs.
  • Integrate social-emotional learning into the classroom to foster a safe, caring, and active learning community.
  • Partner with families and include them in the students’ learning and development.
  • Other duties as assigned.
