About The Position

This is a one-year-only position for a Grade 3 Teacher for the 26-27 SY. The teacher will be responsible for teaching elementary students to master and excel on grade-level expectations through a variety of experiences and learning opportunities. The position requires implementation of district-approved curriculum with an emphasis on workshop models and project-based learning experiences. The teacher will select and/or implement appropriate materials and activities, convey information and collaborate with school members, parents, and administration, and evaluate student growth. Additionally, the teacher will determine each student’s learning level, instruct skills in literacy, numeracy, science, and social sciences, and plan lessons in accordance with BWRSD curriculum guidelines. The role involves providing individual and small-group instruction, organizing the classroom for a conducive learning environment, and maintaining professional competence through development opportunities. Communication with parents and school staff on student progress, maintaining thorough student records, and attending staff development programs are also key responsibilities. The teacher will design instruction to meet Rhode Island’s learning standards, represent and use differing viewpoints in teaching, create instructional opportunities reflecting child development, use student understanding to create connections, and encourage critical thinking and problem-solving. The teacher must follow school policy and procedures and perform any other related duties as assigned. Teachers employed in Rhode Island public schools must demonstrate proficiency or awareness in the knowledge and practices in the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy instruction, with a one-year grace period from the date of appointment to provide evidence of meeting these requirements.

Requirements

Rhode Island Elementary Teaching Certification
Demonstrate proficiency or awareness in the knowledge and practices in the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy instruction within one year of appointment.

Responsibilities

Implement district-approved curriculum with an emphasis on workshop models and project-based learning experiences.
Select and/or implement appropriate materials and activities appropriate to each level and provide for classroom lessons, open houses, portfolios and, community events.
Convey information and collaborate with school members, parents, and administration in a timely and organized manner.
Evaluate student growth and understanding by preparing regular progress updates.
Determine each student’s learning level and select appropriate materials and instructional aids to enhance learning.
Instruct skills in literacy, numeracy, science, and social sciences, providing interdisciplinary connections whenever possible.
Plan all lessons in accordance with the BWRSD curriculum guidelines.
Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
Organize the classroom to create a learning environment that is safe and conducive to learning and student engagement.
Maintain professional competence through professional development opportunities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
Communicate with parents and school staff on student progress.
Maintain thorough records for each student.
Attend staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities.
Design instruction that addresses the core skills, concepts, and ideas of the disciplines/content areas to help all students meet Rhode Island’s learning standards.
Represent and use differing viewpoints, theories, and methods of inquiry when teaching concepts and encourage students to see, question, and interpret concepts from a variety of perspectives.
Create instructional opportunities that reflect an understanding of how children learn and develop.
Use an understanding of students (e.g., individual interests, prior learning, background, and experiences) to create connections between the subject matter and student experiences.
Create instructional opportunities to encourage all students’ development of critical thinking, problem-solving, performance skills, and literacy across content areas.
Follow school policy and procedures, respecting the boundaries of professional responsibilities, when working with students, colleagues, and families.
Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Building Administration and/or other appropriate district administrators.
