About The Position

Sarah Parker Remond Elementary School, part of Salem Public Schools in Salem, MA, is seeking a Grade 2 Teacher for the SY 2026-2027. The newly merged Sarah Parker Remond Elementary School will serve nearly 500 students and offers a supportive, team-based structure with opportunities for leadership and creativity. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Required Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement (Required within 1-year of start date)
  • Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice
  • Current authorization to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Dual Certification in a content area, special education, and/or ESL a plus
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience and working in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred
  • Proven track record of raising student achievement scores in an urban/turnaround environment highly desired
  • Proficiency with technology (digital literacy, teacher/family communication suites (ParentSquare preferred), Google Workspace) desirable
  • Second language (Spanish and/or Portuguese) proficiency a plus
  • Bilingual candidates and candidates of color strongly encouraged to apply

Responsibilities

  • Deliver effective, high quality, rigorous instruction that engages all students in their learning.
  • Work closely with the team, including special education and multilingual learning (ESL) teachers, to ensure all students learn and grow academically and personally.
  • Utilize the district’s core curricula and instructional tools to provide instruction that is appropriately modified to address individual student needs.
  • Work with school administration, instructional coaches, and grade level teams to positively manage student behavior, use student level data to inform instruction, and collaborate in a standards-based environment.
  • Participate as a collaborative member of a professional learning community, eager to receive feedback for professional growth.
  • Teach all students using the district curriculum and other appropriate learning activities reflecting a deep understanding of the state frameworks for the assigned elementary school grade level.
  • Integrate evidence-based practices within daily instruction, possessing deep knowledge about the science of reading.
  • Hold high expectations for student learning and behavior, and provide support to help students achieve.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of student learning styles and needs.
  • Prepare teaching materials and related reports, including ongoing data analyses for improving instruction, implementing lesson plans, and documenting student progress.
  • Provide structure in the classroom by promoting a positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Instruct and provide assistance for student learning, individually or in groups, designing lessons that present and reinforce learning concepts.
  • Understand all students’ backgrounds, build positive relationships, and utilize culturally responsive teaching methods to effectively engage them in their learning.
  • Maintain effective and regular communication with all students and their families.
  • Participate in professional development to enhance the overall educational experience for all students.
  • Effectively manage student behavior, assess and evaluate student achievement.
  • Support the school community with additional duties as needed or assigned.
