The Carpentry Instructor will be responsible for teaching and supervising students in the Carpentry program, aligning with Massachusetts state frameworks and curriculum disciplines under the CTE Director. This role is crucial in preparing students for success in the construction field.

Requirements

  • Chapter 74 Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Carpentry (required)
  • Current Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License (CSL) (required)
  • OSHA & Red Cross “train the trainer” certification or willingness to obtain within the first year of service
  • Five years of recent (within the last seven years) full-time employment experience directly related to carpentry/construction
  • Five years of recent (within the last seven years) full-time employment experience directly related to a construction program
  • Evidence of mastery of various teacher competencies and understanding of instructional techniques.
  • Proficiency in construction methods, including but not limited to: Health and safety knowledge, Technical drawings and blueprints, Building repair and alteration, Knowledge of energy efficiency and green building technologies, Recordkeeping and client relations skills
  • Current authorization to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Teaches Exploratory and Carpentry courses to grades 9-12.
  • Aligns all teaching and learning to the MA VTE frameworks and the competencies for Carpentry.
  • Oversees the Advisory Board for Carpentry.
  • Ensures that OSHA standards are enforced and that all safety protocol is followed.
  • Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflects an understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of students’ IEPs, as well as the accommodations and modifications necessary for student success.
  • Responds to any correspondence, both oral and written, that comes from a parent or guardian.
  • Provides structure in the classroom by promoting a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning for students of all backgrounds and language proficiency levels.
  • Manages student behavior, assesses, and evaluates student achievement; utilizes Standards-Based Grading as it is adopted and integrated into the CTE curriculum.
  • Participates in all professional responsibilities, including but not limited to Coordinated Program Reviews, Advisory board meetings, Open Houses, departmental meetings, IEP meetings, etc.
  • Accepts additional responsibilities as may be required under the direction of the Director of Career & Technical Education.
