About The Position

Bethel Christian School is seeking a Grade 1 Teacher for the upcoming 2026/2026 school year. Teachers at Bethel Christian School provide Christ-centered instruction and guidance for students, fostering academic, social, emotional, and spiritual growth. Reporting to the Principal (and collaborating with the Vice Principal and Operations Director), teachers deliver lessons aligned with the school curriculum, nurtures student character, and partners with parents and colleagues to support the school’s mission.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • A personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, having received Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior.
  • Alignment with the school’s statement of faith and mission, including: Belief that the Bible is God's Word and standard for faith and daily living. Wholehearted agreement with Bethel Church's Statement of Faith and Christian philosophy of education.
  • Being a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward others. This includes being committed to God's Biblical standards for sexual conduct. (Luke 6:40)
  • Be a member in good standing at a local, evangelical church that has a Statement of Faith in agreement with the Statement of Faith of Bethel Church and BCS.
  • Have the spiritual maturity, academic ability, and personal leadership qualities to "train up a child in the way he should go." (Proverbs 22:6)
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain attention to detail, and follow through on tasks.
  • Ability to fulfill the physical and work requirements of the job.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check as well as educational employment history check and reference check.
  • Candidates must be legally qualified to work in the U.S. to be considered for this position (no sponsorship offered).

Nice To Haves

  • Valid state teaching credentials are preferred.
  • Master’s degree or additional coursework in Education or a specific subject area.
  • Experience teaching in a K–8 Christian or private school setting.
  • Familiarity with differentiated instruction, assessment strategies, and classroom technology.
  • Experience mentoring or advising students outside the classroom.
  • Commitment to integrating faith and learning in all aspects of teaching.
  • Knowledge of California school regulations and documentation standards.

  • Recognize the role of parents/guardians as primarily responsible before God for their children's education, and be prepared to assist them in that task.
  • Demonstrate the character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance, and punctuality.
  • Meet everyday stress with emotional stability, objectivity, and optimism.
  • Maintain a personal appearance that is a Christian role model of cleanliness, modesty, good taste, and adherence to BCS policy.
  • Use acceptable English in written and oral communication. Speak with clear articulation.
  • Place his/her teaching ministry ahead of other jobs or volunteer activities.
  • Adhere to employee policies and compliance requirements set forth by Bethel Church and Bethel Christian School.
  • Refuse to use or circulate confidential information inappropriately.
  • Respectfully submit and be loyal to constituted authority.
  • Notify the school administration of any policy he/she is unable to support.
  • Work toward and apply for ASCI certification.
  • Reflect the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ in every class and every activity.
  • Motivate students to accept God's gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith through their witness and Christian role modeling.
  • Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ.
  • Integrate biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities.
  • Use the principles presented in Matthew 18 as foundational for dealing with conflict with students, parents, staff, and school administration.
  • Teach classes as assigned, following the prescribed scope and sequence as scheduled by the school administration.
  • Plan broadly through the use of trimester plans and objectives, and more currently through the use of digital lesson plans.
  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, challenging each to do his/her best work.
  • Utilize valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the school’s philosophy.
  • Employ a variety of instructional aids, methods, and materials that will provide for creative teaching to reach the whole child: spiritual, mental, physical, social, and emotional.
  • Plan through approved channels the balanced classroom use of field trips, guest speakers, and other media.
  • Use homework effectively for drills, review, enrichment, or project work.
  • Prepare adequate information and materials for a Substitute Teacher.
  • Keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises for a good learning environment.
  • Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom.
  • Assess the learning of students regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and grade records to meet the demands for a comprehensive knowledge of each student’s progress.
  • Keep students, parents, and school administration adequately informed of progress or deficiencies and give sufficient notice of failure.
  • Cooperate with Church leadership, school Board, and school administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • Recognize the need for good public relations. Represent the school favorably and professionally to the school’s constituency and the general public. Make an effort to appreciate and understand the uniqueness of the BCS community.
  • Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and consideration.
  • Seek support in dealing with conflict through the counsel of a school administrator, Board member, trusted colleague, Human Resources, and/or parents as appropriate.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled devotionals, in-services, retreats, committees, faculty and student orientations, and parent/teacher meetings.
  • Know the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergent nature.
  • Fulfill mandated reporter responsibilities and protocols.
  • Supervise extracurricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned.
  • Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth.
  • Provide input and constructive recommendations for administrative and managerial functions in the school.
  • Support the broader program of the school by attending extracurricular activities when possible.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the school administration.
