About The Position

The Graduate Assistant (GA) supports staff in Residence Life and Housing with a variety of tasks related to research, student support, housing tasks, and administrative duties. This role provides graduate students with valuable professional experience while they pursue their advanced studies. The GA collaborates closely with staff to help achieve departmental objectives, encourage academic involvement, and contributes to the success of departmental initiatives.

Requirements

  • Enrollment/accepted in a graduate program in Higher Education, Organizational Leadership & Management, Professional Studies, or MBA.
  • Strong academic standing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft Teams and willing to learn other new software adopted by Residence Life and Housing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working as a Resident Assistant (or within Residence Life) or in a comparable student leadership or similar collegiate role, is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support specific to Residence Life and Housing operations, including, but not limited to, assisting with residential initiatives, occupancy management, Residence Hall Council liaison and departmental projects.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating residence life programs, training sessions, and housing-related events.
  • Provide general administrative support, including responding to emails, scheduling meetings, maintaining housing records, and updating occupancy or conduct databases.
  • Support residential students by addressing concerns, assisting with conflict mediation (e.g., roommate agreements), and collaborating with Resident Assistants and Residence Hall Directors to foster a positive living environment.
  • Assist with housing operations, including room assignments, check-in/check-out processes, and coordination of maintenance or facility concerns with appropriate campus partners.
  • Draft, edit, and distribute communications such as community updates, newsletters, bulletin boards, and social media content to engage residential students and promote housing initiatives.
  • Other Duties as assigned
  • Works during high impact periods, which include, but are not limited to: annual forum, graduation, orientations, week prior to the start of student move ins, first two weeks of the semester, last two weeks of the semester prior to finals, and advising periods.
