GPU Design Verification Engineer, Senior

Qualcomm•San Diego, CA
•$141,300 - $211,900

About The Position

The GPU Design Verification Engineer applies graphics knowledge to architect, design, implement, and verify GPU hardware, drivers, features, applications, and tools. The role focuses on Graphics IP verification and pre- and post-silicon validation to confirm correctness and help meet performance and power goals. The engineer develops and maintains SystemVerilog/UVM verification environments, builds testing frameworks that reproduce real-world system integration conditions, and collaborates with cross-functional teams on test methodology and content. The position also involves system-level testing, continuous-integration automation, analysis of test and benchmark results, and technical documentation under supervisor direction. Work is performed within program timelines and resource constraints, with independent ownership of scoped tasks and troubleshooting of moderately complex problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience; or a master's degree in one of these fields and 1+ year of related work experience; or a PhD in one of these fields.
  • Verification skills in test planning, scripting, simulation, problem solving, and debugging.
  • SystemVerilog, UVM, Verilog or VHDL, and C/C++ skills.
  • Experience with constrained random verification, functional coverage development, and design debugging.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.
  • Exposure to emulation or prototyping platforms such as Veloce, Palladium, Zebu, or FPGA.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant GPU experience, either external or internal.
  • Experience in GPU-based verification and system- or subsystem-level verification.
  • Experience with concurrency, preemption, and stress-testing frameworks.
  • Testbench architecture and implementation experience.
  • Graphics API exposure, including Vulkan, DX11, or DX12.
  • Scripting and automation skills, such as Python, Make, or Airflow.
  • Embedded firmware development and debugging experience.
  • Benchmarking and performance analysis experience.
  • Knowledge of Windows and/or Linux OS kernel architecture.
  • Experience with the GNU toolchain or Visual Studio.
  • Formal verification experience, including FPV or DPV.
  • Experience with emulation, prototyping, hybrid build, and execution flows such as Veloce, Palladium, Zebu, Protium, HAPS, or qemu.
  • Experience developing synthesizable transactors, monitors, and scoreboards for emulation platforms.
  • Embedded firmware or kernel-level development and debugging skills, including C/C++, Makefile, gdb, uboot, uefi, or kernel-mode drivers.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, implement, and verify GPU hardware, drivers, features, applications, and tools.
  • Create and maintain verification test benches and environments using SystemVerilog/UVM.
  • Create and use advanced testing frameworks to generate and recreate real-world system integration conditions.
  • Collaborate with Architecture, Software, Firmware, Design, Modeling, Emulation, and Post-silicon Validation teams to define and develop test methodology and content.
  • Participate in GPU architecture and micro-architecture reviews.
  • Collect, organize, and execute system-level test content, including directed test cases, gaming benchmarks, standards-compliance test suites, and system-level scenarios.
  • Build automation for continuous integration and testing based on the latest GPU IP.
  • Collect and analyze test results using statistics and data predictions to track benchmarks and identify issues.
  • Align with team members on feature-development scope and deliver targets.
  • Write technical documentation and feature descriptions for straightforward projects under supervisor direction.
  • Own and execute key independent tasks toward program requirements, troubleshoot technical problems, and work within prescribed timelines and resource constraints.

Benefits

  • Competitive annual discretionary bonus program.
  • Opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for the annual bonus).
  • Competitive benefits package designed to support success at work, at home, and at play.
