The GPS Technician supports field operations by ensuring accurate layout, elevations, and grading using GPS and surveying equipment such as Machine controls, Total Stations, and Drones. Requirements

  • 2 years of experience in grade checking, surveying, or GPS Machine Control, Total Stations and or Tablet Data Collector
  • Experience working with Trimble GPS, Topcon, or similar.
  • Experience utilizing Civil 3D design software to complete project needs
  • Ability to wear a full body harness and work at heights while tied off.
  • Ability to work, day, swing, and night shifts (occasionally extended hours).
  • Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment.
  • Ability to squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions/confined spaces.
  • Physical dexterity, stamina, and excellent hand-eye coordination with ability to: grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down.
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. or more.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED, preferred.
  • Drone License Part 107, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Configure GPS base stations, rovers and automated machine controls on heavy earthmoving and paving equipment.
  • Perform grade checking to verify elevations, slopes, and alignment according to project plans.
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot GPS equipment, total stations, and laser levels
  • Interpret blueprints, site plans, and staking information
  • Set and verify control points, hubs, and offsets
  • Communicate grade and layout information clearly to operators and field crews
  • Monitor and ensure accuracy during earthwork, paving, and utility installation
  • Maintain daily records of measurements and site activities
  • Other duties as required.
