About The Position

Thomson Reuters is seeking a motivated, results-driven Government Sales Specialist Representative with a background in public safety or government to own their territory and drive business. This quota-carrying, outbound-focused role is for sellers who understand the law enforcement and local government landscape and can translate that knowledge into closed deals. You will partner with a world-class sales organization to prospect and sell Thomson Reuters' cloud solutions, including CLEAR, an AI-powered investigative platform, directly into police departments, sheriff's offices, county and municipal government agencies, and other public safety entities. The position offers a competitive base salary and variable compensation tied to success, along with an extraordinary benefits package and extensive career growth opportunities. This is a remote-based role and requires the candidate to be based in the US.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated experience in a quota-carrying sales role, with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets — government, public safety, or SaaS technology sales strongly preferred.
  • Solid familiarity with law enforcement agency structures and local government environments, including police departments, sheriff's offices, county governments, and district attorney offices.
  • Working understanding of government procurement processes, including RFPs, cooperative purchasing, and fiscal year budget cycles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for law enforcement and government audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to quickly establish credibility and trust with public safety professionals at all levels.
  • Active listening skills to identify an agency's operational needs and challenges, and connect them to the right Thomson Reuters solutions.
  • Proficiency in Salesforce or comparable CRM platforms.
  • Commitment to a schedule that aligns with the customer's workday.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required by territory and business needs.
  • Motivated, competitive, and self-directed with a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Thomson Reuters CLEAR or comparable law enforcement investigative platforms, records management systems (RMS/CAD), or public safety technology solutions is a plus — but not required.
  • Familiarity with social selling platforms (e.g., LinkedIn) and AI-powered sales tools.

Responsibilities

  • Generate pipeline, advance opportunities, and drive revenue within a defined geography.
  • Prospect into police departments, sheriff's offices, district attorney offices, state and county governments, and public safety agencies, building relationships and connecting agencies with Thomson Reuters solutions.
  • Own and exceed assigned territory quota and monthly/annual sales targets, maintaining consistent performance at or above 100% of YTD goals.
  • Drive proactive outbound prospecting and pipeline generation through phone, email, social media, and in-person engagement, with a focused emphasis on law enforcement decision-makers.
  • Independently generate, qualify, and advance opportunities within the defined territory from initial outreach through to close or handoff in collaboration with Account Executives.
  • Support Account Executives on active pursuits when brought in, contributing knowledge of Thomson Reuters solutions and the public safety market.
  • Build and develop trusted relationships with law enforcement agencies, public safety departments, county governments, and emergency service organizations.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of how local government procurement works, including RFPs, cooperative purchasing agreements, and budget cycles unique to public safety agencies.
  • Travel as required to attend prospect meetings, agency visits, industry events, and conferences to build relationships and represent Thomson Reuters.
  • Conduct ongoing market analysis of the law enforcement and local government technology landscape.
  • Accurately and promptly log all activities, customer contacts, and pipeline updates in Salesforce.
