Government Relations Intern
About The Position
Modern Technology Solutions is seeking a Government Relations Intern to join its team full time in Alexandria, Virginia, during Summer 2027. The intern will support defense technology and public policy initiatives, with a focus on legislative strategy, policy research, and compliance efforts for government contractors supporting the U.S. Department of War. Candidates local to Alexandria, Virginia, are strongly desired. The position involves research into legislative, regulatory, political, and national security developments; monitoring congressional activity and defense policy; preparing materials for internal stakeholders and leadership; and supporting stakeholder engagement, industry outreach, advocacy, and government affairs activities. The intern will collaborate with Government Relations, Business Development, and other internal teams and contribute to strategic research and special projects related to defense, technology, and national security. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program in Business, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Political Science, or a related field. Required technical skills include Microsoft SharePoint via SPARC, MS Fabric coding, Power BI, Power Automate, and Power Apps. U.S. citizenship is required, and candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance. The stated pay range is $19.00 to $23.00 per hour. Base pay may vary based on government contract ranges, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other factors. Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program in Business, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Political Science, or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work as part of a team and independently, demonstrating initiative, ownership, and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of the U.S. political process and public administration.
- Working skills in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge and working skills in Microsoft SharePoint via SPARC.
- MS Fabric coding abilities.
- Working skills in Power BI, Power Automate, and Power Apps.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities
- Research legislative, regulatory, political, and national security developments relevant to MTSI’s business objectives.
- Support preparation of briefing materials, presentations, reports, and summaries for internal stakeholders and leadership.
- Monitor congressional activity, defense policy developments, and government affairs issues to inform team awareness and planning.
- Assist with stakeholder engagement, industry outreach, advocacy initiatives, and relationship-building activities.
- Collaborate with Government Relations, Business Development, and other internal teams to support organizational priorities.
- Support coordination of industry events, meetings, and other government affairs activities.
- Maintain internal research materials, documentation, and reporting resources to support team operations.
- Contribute to strategic research and special projects related to defense, technology, and national security.
