About The Position

Assist the Vice President of External Relations in the development and formulation of the Companies' official position on legislative and regulatory matters, and act as the Companies' representative to effectively communicate its corporate philosophy to legislative and regulatory bodies. Monitor legislative, regulatory, and political matters that may affect the Companies' operations. Research and draft legislative and regulatory language as needed. Foster strategic relationships with, and serve as Companies' liaison to, legislative and regulatory bodies, the insurance industry in general, and to its trades and guaranty associations in particular.

Requirements

  • A relationship builder who is trusted, creative, collaborative, persuasive, dependable and possesses high ethical standards
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including superior negotiation skills to effectively interact with legislators and regulators, and an ability to communicate with and gain the confidence of people from a variety of sectors and settings
  • Typically requires at least three years of experience in legal practice (law firm or in-house), or government relations, or insurance litigation and/or regulation
  • Law degree and admission to a state Bar is required
  • Knowledge of the legislative and regulatory process
  • Willingness to develop thorough understanding of insurance industry and Companies' operations through in-house and/or industry courses as appropriate
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without a reasonable accommodation

Nice To Haves

  • Admission to the Bar in the State of Missouri is preferred, but not required
