About The Position

The Government Relations Associate will focus on state advocacy and policy, supporting government relations efforts at the state level. This role involves building relationships with key policymakers and staff, advocating for legislative priorities, and monitoring state-level developments that impact the company. The position is specifically looking for someone located in the Eastern Time Zone to support North East states.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, public relations, education or related field required.
  • 3+ years of experience in government relations, public policy, or a related field, with a focus on state-level advocacy and legislative processes.
  • Excellent customer service skills with both internal and external customers.
  • Capable of working with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
  • Effective communication skills, written, verbal and interpersonal.
  • Proficient time management, organizational skills and ability to meet established deadlines.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate, build strong relationships, and effectively engage with diverse stakeholders including executives, government officials, and media representatives.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to distill complex issues into clear recommendations.
  • Ability to work with strong attention to detail and in accordance with state lobbying laws and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, industry groups, and internal teams.
  • Capable of working independently with a proactive mindset, effectively managing multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in early childhood education, education, healthcare, energy, or another highly regulated sector preferred.
  • Familiarity with advocacy tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in executing state advocacy strategies to influence legislative and regulatory decisions that align with the company’s priorities.
  • Track and analyze relevant state legislation, regulations, and executive actions, providing timely updates to leadership and internal stakeholders on key policy developments.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key state policymakers, staff, and other stakeholders to ensure the company's interests are represented effectively.
  • Conduct in-depth research on state policy issues, legislative trends, and political dynamics to guide advocacy strategies and policy positions.
  • Draft clear and compelling communications such as talking points, testimony, and policy briefs, and collaborate with internal teams for consistent messaging.
  • Represent the company before external audiences.
  • Work with industry groups, coalitions, and other stakeholders to build alliances that support shared policy goals.
  • Ensure compliance with state lobbying laws and regulations and provide regular reports on advocacy activities.
