About The Position

CMG Home Loans is seeking an experienced Government Underwriter with active DE/Lapp/Sar designations. The role involves executing underwriting based on company policy and standards to ensure sound decisions that protect the company's financial and operational interests. The underwriter will be responsible for underwriting FHA and VA loans, and potentially other loan types such as Bond and USDA, Renovation, and Construction. A key responsibility is the ability to underwrite 45+ initial underwrites per month, communicate regularly with Loan Officers and Processors, and maintain current knowledge of products. The position also involves leadership in directing underwriting resources and credit policy execution, maintaining conversation logs, assisting with training, and ad hoc reporting.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years specific government underwriting experience.
  • Must possess valid CHUMS and/or LAPP/Sar to underwriter FHA and VA loans
  • Must work with both Credit and Appraisals
  • Must have demonstrated satisfactory knowledge of DU and LP input.
  • Ability to properly interpret DU and LP, communicate and document their findings.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and email systems.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, fluid environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • High integrity and confidentiality required.

Nice To Haves

  • Active DE/Lapp/Sar preferably.
  • USDA is also highly preferred as is Bonds.
  • Recent experience underwriting USDA and Bond highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite FHA and VA loans by having active government designation (DE/Sar/Lapp)
  • Potentially underwrite various other types of loans potentially including Bond and USDA, Renovation and Construction.
  • Ability to underwrite 45+ initial underwrites per month.
  • Communicates regularly with the Loan Officers and/or Processor regarding status of loans via current technology.
  • Follows file and check order as conditions are signed off and new information is received.
  • Maintains current working knowledge on current products.
  • Leadership with respect to direction of underwriting resources and credit policy execution within team.
  • Maintains conversation log in Byte to properly track the forward movement of the file.
  • Assists with training needs of other mortgage positions.
  • Ad hoc reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.
