About The Position

The Greenville Chamber is seeking a Government Affairs Manager to support the Chamber's advocacy efforts and the work of the Upstate Chamber Coalition. This position plays a key role in building relationships with local elected officials, supporting public policy initiatives, coordinating committees, and planning events and programs that bring business and government leaders together. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the Upstate region by connecting business and government leaders, supporting public policy initiatives, and helping create programs and events that drive economic growth and community success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least one year of relevant professional, internship, volunteer, or public policy experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, History, Economics, Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience in public policy, government relations, public affairs, community engagement, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of local government processes and South Carolina political structure.
  • Experience planning events, managing committees, or coordinating volunteer leaders.
  • Chamber of Commerce experience.
  • Public speaking and presentation experience.
  • Ability to build relationships and foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local elected officials, government agencies, community leaders, and business stakeholders.
  • Support the VP of Government Affairs in monitoring local government activity and public policy issues that impact the business community and provide timely updates to Chamber leadership and members.
  • Serve as staff liaison to public policy committees and coalition groups, coordinating meetings, agendas, materials, and follow-up communications.
  • Research public policy, economic development, and business-related issues and prepare reports, briefings, and communications.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute government affairs programs, policy events, candidate forums, legislative discussions, and other member engagement opportunities.
  • Support advocacy efforts at the local, state, and federal levels, with a primary focus on local government activities and initiatives.
  • Communicate Chamber public policy priorities through presentations, written communications, digital channels, and member outreach.
  • Assist with implementation of the Chamber's strategic advocacy priorities and related initiatives.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, Chamber members, and coalition partners to advance public policy goals and strengthen community partnerships.
  • Support sponsorship and revenue-generating opportunities related to government affairs programming.
