About The Position

The Government Affairs Coordinator supports SCI's advocacy initiatives by tracking legislative and regulatory activity, preparing reports, coordinating events and meetings, conducting research and outreach, and providing administrative support to the Government Affairs team. The role serves as a key liaison with internal departments, committees, and external stakeholders to advance advocacy efforts at the state, federal, and international levels. This position also oversees the day-to-day administrative operations of SCI's Washington, D.C. office, including organizing business activities, coordinating meetings and events, and ensuring efficient office operations. All applicants should demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment to, hunting as an essential part of biologically sound and ethically responsible international wildlife management. The ideal candidate will have an existing knowledge of SCI’s current programs and mission and be passionate about hunter’s rights.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Government, Public Administration, Communications, Law, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of hunting and hunting implements, laws, traditions and customs is extremely significant.
  • Experience drafting content for various audiences, including internal memos, press releases.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite software, including OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams with an ability to become familiar with SCI-specific programs and software.
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer service skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Motivation and strong desire to take on new challenges and learn as much as possible

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced photo and video skills are a plus.
  • Knowledge of Washington, D.C., politics, government, etc. is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in national and international travel and affairs is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and track breaking and developing news stories.
  • Draft letters and documents for both external and internal use. Research, review, verify, route and prepare correspondence (including mass mailings) and reports.
  • Maintains and updates databases, spreadsheets, logs, and generates reports. Summarizes reports and information to facilitate review by immediate supervisor.
  • Oversee and coordinate the production of various reports by collecting, analyzing, transcribing, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, copying, and transmitting text, data, and graphics.
  • Maintains the central office calendar for events and serves as general support for all events held at DC office.
  • Schedule and plan logistics for meetings, conferences, seminars, and special events including arrangements for catering, furniture, equipment and space rental.
  • Assist and coordinate various planning initiatives for Advocacy team in the lead up and during annual SCI Convention and Lobby Day
  • Supports member led committees by providing general staff support and implementing initiatives enacted by committees
  • Oversees and leads SCI’s year-round Government Affairs Internship program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. Attend meetings, conventions, trade shows, and other events as appropriate.
