About The Position

At Glen Arbour Golf Course, we take pride in delivering an exceptional golf experience for our members and guests — and our course conditions are at the heart of that experience. We are seeking an experienced Golf Course Superintendent to lead the maintenance, conditioning, and long-term care of our golf course and surrounding grounds. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all golf course maintenance operations, including agronomic programs, irrigation systems, equipment maintenance, staffing, budgeting, safety, and course improvement initiatives. Working closely with the General Manager and Ownership Team, the Superintendent will help ensure that Glen Arbour Golf Course continues to provide outstanding playing conditions while supporting environmental stewardship, operational efficiency, and a strong team culture.

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive golf course maintenance experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of turfgrass management, soil science, irrigation systems, drainage, pest management, and environmental stewardship.
  • Experience developing and managing departmental budgets.
  • Strong understanding of golf course operations and maintenance standards.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Pesticide Applicator Licence, or ability to obtain within three months of employment.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation and WHMIS requirements.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all golf course maintenance and agronomy programs, including turfgrass, landscapes, trees, gardens, naturalized areas, greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, practice facilities, and clubhouse grounds.
  • Develop and manage seasonal maintenance schedules that support excellent course conditions while minimizing disruption to member and guest play.
  • Oversee irrigation systems, water management practices, lake levels, soil moisture, and environmental conditions to support healthy turf and responsible resource use.
  • Direct equipment maintenance, repairs, replacement planning, vendor coordination, and maintenance facility standards.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and develop maintenance department employees while fostering a respectful, safety-focused, and accountable team environment.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety requirements, environmental regulations, pesticide legislation, WHMIS, and safe work practices.
  • Prepare and manage annual operating and capital budgets for the maintenance department, while monitoring expenses, inventory, records, and departmental resources.
  • Collaborate with leadership on capital projects, long-term course planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
