About The Position

Under general supervision, this role is responsible for keeping golf course play moving by enforcing play-through and other golf course rules. The attendant assists with the operation of the community golf driving range, cart and club storage, and performs related duties. This position involves regular contact with other divisions, departments, residents, vendors, and the public, and requires communication with other golf staff via radio. Duties may change at the discretion of Management.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid California driver's license.
  • Ability to work a minimum of two days per week and fill in for more if needed.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job.
  • Knowledge of excellent customer service attributes.
  • Knowledge of golf course playing rules.
  • Knowledge of division and department rules, procedures, and functions.
  • Knowledge of the use of basic electronic equipment including handheld radios and computers.
  • Ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively.
  • Ability to relate to the needs and concerns of senior citizens.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of management.
  • Frequently required to talk, hear, see, and use hands to finger, grasp, feel, reach and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Regularly required to stand for periods up to 4 hours and walk up to 3 hours.
  • Occasionally required to kneel, pull, push, stoop, and lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Reads, solves problems, uses verbal and written communication skills, and able to handle frequent customer contact and interruptions.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a designated golf cart to patrol the course and keep play moving.
  • Determine who is authorized to play and instruct golfers in the proper care of greens, traps, and divots.
  • Enforce play-through rules as needed.
  • Act as a starter on Courses 2 or 3 when requested by the Pro Shop.
  • Carry sand in a ranger cart and fill divots in fairways as needed.
  • Repair ball marks on the greens without interrupting the pace of play.
  • Advise and/or report on the misuse of motorized carts; enforce the 90-degree rule where applicable.
  • Use rule violation notebook and citations according to instructions.
  • Inspect and report to golf maintenance any areas that need attention such as wet or dangerous areas.
  • Use the handheld radio on a regular basis to communicate with the golf shop.
  • Inspect the course for broken or out-of-place stakes, replace signs, ropes, and rakes.
  • Pick up and properly dispose of any trash seen on the course.
  • In the morning, pick up mail from the Community Center Building and the daily sales reports from the Par 3 Course; return all items to the Pro Shop Starter.
  • Work effectively with co-workers, customers, and others by sharing ideas constructively and positively, listening to and objectively considering others' ideas, keeping commitments, and keeping others informed of work progress.
  • Address problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical business solutions.
  • Address others by name, title, or another respectful identifier.
  • Respect the diversity of the workforce in actions, words, and deeds.
  • Check electric carts in and determine remaining battery charge; keep batteries charged to proper levels; connect carts to chargers at the end of the day; clean the carts.
  • Keep track of activities on the upper putting green to ensure it is being used properly.
  • Drive carts from the Cart Barn to the staging area.
  • Open/close the driving range.
  • Record sales of range balls into the POS system, carefully check resident IDs of range users, and keep the area clean and orderly.
  • Pick up balls on the range with a picking unit and by hand in inaccessible places, run them through a ball cleaning machine, and fill ball baskets.
  • Approach everyone in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Drive a vehicle to perform job-related responsibilities.
  • Assist in other areas of the golf course or clubhouse operations as required.
