About The Position

The Goalie Coach will lead and execute goaltending development programs for the Kraken Youth Hockey initiatives, including Learn to Play, youth hockey teams, spring academy, and summer camps. This position plays a critical role in fostering a goaltender-focused development pathway that aligns with the Seattle Kraken’s values of community, education, and building champions for life. The Goalie Coach will oversee the development and retention of goaltenders across all ages and skill levels, from recreational (6U) to elite (18U AAA). This role involves both on-ice coaching and administrative leadership, on-ice coaching specific to goaltending, Learn to Play programming, boys and girls youth teams, spring hockey, summer camps and tournaments.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in playing and coaching hockey, with a specialization in goaltending development.
  • Experience in designing and managing hockey program operations.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Experience with Learn to Play programming and youth hockey development.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and retain goaltenders across multiple age groups and skill levels.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present and convey ideas effectively.
  • Highly organized, resourceful, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Committed to upholding the values and brand of the Seattle Kraken.
  • USA Hockey Level 1 certification or equivalent, including CEP Training, concussion protocol knowledge, and Safesport certification.
  • Understanding of Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an expert ability to present and communicate new ideas and concepts.
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented, resourceful, quick learner and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • A high degree of personal integrity and consistently put the interests of the organization first.

Nice To Haves

  • Competitive playing experience.
  • Advanced USA Hockey certifications (Bronze, Silver, or Gold levels).
  • Experience coaching at USA Hockey national camps.
  • Proven experience managing a youth hockey association.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all ice programming.
  • 5+ years of experience in hockey coaching and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement goaltending programming for ages 6U-18U, covering all levels from recreational to AAA.
  • Foster a healthy pipeline of goaltenders through innovative, engaging, and developmental-focused programming.
  • Serve as an on-ice presence across all age groups and programs, including Learn to Play, youth teams, and goalie-specific clinics.
  • Plan and lead weekly goalie clinics for grassroots and youth development.
  • Collaborate with team coaches to incorporate goaltending into practice plans effectively.
  • Evaluate goalies during tryouts and provide constructive feedback.
  • Engage with parents, players, and staff to address questions about programming.
  • Coach and support Kraken Youth Hockey programs year-round, including spring development, summer camps, fall/winter seasons, and tournaments.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of goaltending techniques and coach development strategies.
  • Build and manage a positive, inclusive culture for Kraken Youth Hockey coaches and participants.
  • Establish an athlete-first, development-focused environment that prioritizes personal and athletic growth.
  • Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
