GNC Navigation Engineer

KODA Technologies•Huntsville, AL
•Onsite

About The Position

KODA Technologies is seeking a Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer to develop, simulate, analyze, and test navigation algorithms. The role supports advanced technology demonstrations and works on-site in Huntsville, Alabama, as part of a team of GNC engineers and algorithm developers. An active DoW Secret Clearance and U.S. citizenship are required. The engineer will model and analyze navigation systems within broader system simulations, design or transition algorithms into software, and fuse simulated and real-world sensor inputs. The work involves balancing navigation accuracy, operating environment, and cost while collaborating across engineering disciplines and presenting techniques, solutions, and results to the GNC team.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary STEM degree and 5–10+ years of relevant experience.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience with extended Kalman filters, unscented Kalman filters, particle filters, or factor graphs.
  • Experience working with Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) in a multi-sensor navigation system.
  • Good working knowledge of navigation architectures within a flight system involving closed-loop Guidance, Navigation, and Control software.
  • Professionally demonstrated proficiency in C++.
  • Ability to clearly articulate technical information, often to non-technical customers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Active DoW Secret Clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with alternative navigation technologies to improve navigation performance in GPS-degraded environments.
  • Experience deploying navigation algorithms to real-time applications.
  • Experience with Linux, C++, MATLAB, and/or Python.
  • Experience with DevOps/DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines and software version control such as Git.
  • Experience conducting business in a high-OPSEC environment, including modeling, simulation, and software development.
  • Experience specifying, testing, and/or qualifying sensor hardware.
  • Experience in weapon-system and/or sensor modeling, including modeling the items and the synthetic environments used to stimulate simulated hardware.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles, including requirements development and verification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform modeling, simulation, and analysis of a navigation system as part of a broader system simulation.
  • Lead the design of new algorithms and/or transition existing algorithms to produce software that enables accurate navigation.
  • Use and apply sensor-fusion algorithms, including extended Kalman filters, unscented Kalman filters, particle filters, and factor graphs.
  • Fuse simulated and real-world sensor inputs from inertial sensors, star trackers, cameras, altimeters, and other aiding sensors.
  • Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to design navigation systems while balancing factors such as accuracy, operating environment, and cost.
  • Present techniques, solutions, and results to the GNC team.
