About The Position

Leland is seeking a high-agency operator to own a large, two-sided marketplace at the intersection of education, career development, and expert knowledge. The role involves managing the supply and demand engine across a broad category footprint, increasingly incorporating both human and AI experts. Leland's platform connects ambitious individuals with coaching, content, and courses to achieve their career and educational goals. The company has helped tens of thousands of people, raised $19M, and is a leader in educational, career, and AI coaching. The Marketplace GM will own the full business, including expert supply, customer demand, category expansion, and enterprise partnerships, particularly in deploying AI experts for workforce upskilling. This is an eight-figure business with significant growth potential, reporting to the Head of GMs, with real P&L ownership.

Requirements

  • Understanding of how two-sided markets work, with dedicated attention to supply and demand, unit economics, and growth levers.
  • Experience as a GM, operator, or founder at a marketplace or platform business.
  • Experience as a revenue or growth leader at an edtech, coaching, or content company.
  • Experience as an early operator at a high-growth startup who owned a P&L or a major business line.
  • Proven track record of owning a number and moving it, carrying a quota, leading a sales or growth team, or running a business responsible for the top line.
  • Ability to identify an opportunity, build a motion, and execute it.
  • Comfort with data and understanding of key marketplace metrics (GMV, take rate, conversion, LTV, CAC, NPS).
  • Genuine respect for client goals in high-stakes, personal, and outcomes-driven areas.
  • Experience building with AI and integrating it into work processes.
  • High-agency: ability to identify and fix broken processes or seize opportunities independently.
  • Builder mentality: creating new programs, supply pipelines, and methods for activation and conversion.
  • Treating the business as their own, understanding numbers, and making decisions with financial impact.
  • Ability to move fast and ship things, learning from outcomes.
  • Caring about the mission of helping people reach ambitious goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Not necessarily an expert in specific categories like MBA admissions or consulting recruiting, but a genuine respect for client goals.

Responsibilities

  • Own the strategy for recruiting, vetting, activating, and retaining a high-quality bench of experts across every category, human and AI alike.
  • Own how customers find Leland, why they convert, and how well they're served, including optimizing the acquisition funnel and customer experience.
  • Identify opportunities for category expansion, recruit supply, and launch new categories.
  • Develop and grow the enterprise channel, focusing on deploying AI-delivered services for workforce upskilling and outplacement at scale.
  • Manage the full business, including supply (experts) and demand (customers), and identify growth vectors.

Benefits

  • Compensation and equity grow as the business does.
  • Full Leland platform as an unfair advantage (brand, audience, distribution, payment rails).
