This position exemplifies and ensures strong customer service in all aspects of the job. The GM/HBC Manager directs and controls the operation of the GM/HBC Department to achieve sales and profit objectives. As a primary contact for customers, the GM/HBC Manager provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. This role works in the variety department of a grocery store handling mostly non-grocery items and is held accountable for the department’s results in providing superior service, increasing sales, improving gain, and containing cost. The manager trains, supervises, schedules and assigns duties to GM/HBC Clerks, follows division guidelines for the implementation of the merchandising program, and changes signs and prices as directed. Daily tasks include inventorying floor stock, writing variety orders, checking orders for completeness, and maintaining appropriate stock levels. The manager views display areas daily to determine stock needed, opens containers, removes merchandise, and stocks shelves. Shelves are periodically faced and organized, and stock and display areas are kept clean and neat. Product is rotated and expired product is removed daily.
