Globalization Software Engineer

Okta•Toronto, ON

About The Position

Okta is seeking a hands-on Globalization Software Engineer to architect, build, and maintain global digital engineering and automation infrastructure. This autonomous individual-contributor role focuses on software engineering, automation frameworks, and API-driven integrations—not core product feature development. The engineer is the localization team’s sole technical owner and architect, responsible for technical decisions, system architecture, vendor management, and cross-functional internationalization consulting. The role builds and maintains localization automation connecting enterprise translation management systems (TMS) with content repositories, CI/CD pipelines, and internal microservices. It integrates LLM APIs and custom machine translation pipelines, maintains enterprise TMS configurations and connectors, and develops developer tools and CI/CD guardrails. The engineer also provides technical oversight of localization systems and works with product engineering teams on code-level internationalization reviews and architectural patterns that enable global readiness. The position requires independent ownership of production-grade code, primarily in Python, and responsibility for localization velocity, pipeline reliability, and developer tooling efficiency. Candidates may be located in the United States or Canada; compensation varies by location. Okta describes an immersive, in-person onboarding experience and a global community spanning more than 20 offices.

Requirements

  • 6–8 years of experience in software or globalization engineering, with a track record of architecting localization solutions at scale.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python, API development, and software engineering principles for building, testing, and maintaining automation infrastructure and integrations.
  • Experience with enterprise CMS or MSM platforms, such as Adobe Experience Manager.
  • Hands-on experience programmatically integrating LLM APIs and custom machine translation pipelines into proprietary automation frameworks.
  • Deep technical understanding of localization, including TMS architecture, content parsing, and file formats such as JSON, XML, XLIFF, and properties files.
  • Ability to conduct code-level internationalization reviews across React, Go, or Java codebases using AST-based parsing or linting, and to partner with product engineering teams on global readiness.
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously without technical direction or engineering management.
  • Systematic, analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple technical projects simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with modern CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins; Git; and automated testing frameworks for i18n/l10n workflows.
  • Experience with data analysis and reporting on workflow performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain localization automation workflows and infrastructure using agentic workflows, Python, and REST APIs.
  • Connect enterprise TMS platforms with content repositories, CI/CD pipelines, and internal microservices.
  • Write, test, deploy, and maintain production-grade code independently, primarily in Python.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement localization technologies, including LLM APIs, custom machine translation pipelines, and advanced TMS features.
  • Resolve high-impact architectural failures in the localization stack and conduct root-cause analysis of integration issues, API payload or file-parsing conflicts, and distributed-system bottlenecks.
  • Conduct code-level internationalization reviews of React, Go, or Java codebases and develop AST static-analysis scripts and architectural patterns for global readiness.
  • Administer enterprise TMS instances, including schema configuration, webhooks, payload parsing, and custom data connectors.
  • Develop CLI tools, custom linters, and pseudo-localization build hooks to identify string concatenation, hardcoding, and UI truncation during build and pull-request phases.
  • Manage vendors and make technical decisions as the localization technology stack’s sole technical owner.
  • Consult and collaborate with localization and product engineering teams on internationalization.
  • Manage multiple technical projects and, where applicable, analyze and report on workflow performance.

Benefits

  • Equity, where applicable.
  • Bonus.
  • Health insurance.
  • Dental insurance.
  • Vision insurance.
  • 401(k).
