About The Position

In the Legal & Compliance division, we assist the Firm in achieving its business objectives by facilitating and overseeing the Firm's management of legal, regulatory and franchise risk. This is a Director level position within the GFC Client Risk Unit (CRU), where you will play a critical role in managing critical client risk matters, which encompasses the onboarding of clients, enhanced due diligence, and ongoing reviews to ensure compliance with the Firm's financial crime program. Global Financial Crimes (GFC) coordinates day-to-day implementation of the Firm's enterprise-wide financial crime prevention efforts. GFC includes several legal and compliance disciplines and has responsibility for governance, oversight and execution of the Firm's Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Sanctions, Anti-Corruption, Anti-Tax Evasion, and Government and Political Activities Compliance programs. GFC also develops and/or assists in the development of appropriate policies and procedures, including those designed to assist the business units to know their clients and conduct appropriate due diligence and to prevent, detect and report potentially suspicious activity. GFC Coverage teams provide guidance to business units and support functions on matters pertaining to AML, economic sanctions, anti-corruption, anti-tax evasion, and political activity obligations. They also address requirements specific to individual clients and transactions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience, preferably at a large/complex financial institution, law firm, or government/regulatory body
  • Detailed understanding of the laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to AML as well as sanctions and anti-corruption
  • Highly-motivated self-starter able to work independently while collaborating and coordinating as part of a global program
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to provide viable solutions in a time-sensitive environment
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills, attention to detail, and effective time management
  • Strong project management skills
  • Sound judgment and an ability to appropriately escalate issues internally
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and team-player attitude
  • Certification as an Anti-Money Laundering Specialist by ACAMS or equivalent AML certification/license - or certification within first 15 months of employment
  • Solid knowledge of Institutional Securities, including M&A, sales and trading, equity underwriting, and debt financing, and the ability to understand and assess a wide variety of complex commercial transactions

Responsibilities

  • Review enhanced due diligence for both new and existing higher risk clients including analyzing corporate structures and other documentation as necessary
  • Analyze and escalate financial crimes negative news as necessary
  • Build stakeholder relationships and ensure the establishment of effective partnerships with stakeholders in regional businesses, 1L Financial Crimes Risk (FCR), Operations, and LCD coverages.
  • Determine and provide guidance on the appropriate client risk ranking
  • Serve as an escalation point and provide support for Know Your Customer (KYC) onboarding, enhanced due diligence, periodic refresh, and transactional due diligence.
  • Oversee review and resolution process of client risk, negative news and sanctions, and Investigations escalations.
  • Review of client accounts for potential matches to designated sanctions targets and prohibited persons lists
  • Engage various third-party and internal databases to assist with due diligence searches as needed
  • Develop an understanding of anti-money laundering regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Provide advice on financial crimes policies and procedures to a range of stakeholders, such as Operations and 1L Financial Crimes Risk,
  • Provide guidance on client risk and due diligence issues to business and operational stakeholders
  • Support ISG strategic initiatives and programs; act as contact for regional and global coverages, coordinating with regional and global ISG GFC coverages.
