About The Position

This position is part of Global Process Engineering (GPE), Advanced Controls & Optimization (ACO), providing technical expertise to maximize production, improve plant yield, optimize energy usage, reduce carbon emissions, and improve operational stability, reliability, and safety through Advanced Process Control & Optimization (APC&O). The role develops and implements APC and Transition Manager (TM) solutions at polymer units across global sites and collaborates with work groups worldwide to maximize the value of APC&O applications. This high-visibility role can affect multiple global sites and lead or participate in global value-enhancement and sustainability initiatives. It is based at HEC for a successful candidate in the Houston area, or at any LyondellBasell manufacturing site in North America.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering; Chemical Engineering is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of APC experience in the relevant petrochemical industry.
  • Demonstrated APC experience in polymer or petrochemical processes.
  • Understanding of process-engineering theory and control-theory fundamentals, with the ability to model and control chemical processes.
  • Expertise with Aspen APC&O products (DMC3, Aspen IQ) and/or Rockwell Pavilion (VOA, MPC).
  • Hands-on experience with distributed control systems such as Emerson, Honeywell, Schneider, or Yokogawa.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and teamwork skills to drive critical global initiatives and communicate complex concepts with people at all levels.
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills for internal and external clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple or changing priorities and drive results.
  • Ability to work independently and innovate in identifying opportunities and driving initiatives.
  • Ability to successfully lead and manage projects within schedule and budget constraints.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nonlinear modeling techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical lead for high-value APC&O projects at global manufacturing sites.
  • Define and support DCS regulatory control strategies for APC applications.
  • Consult with sites on developing and prioritizing APC&O projects and regulatory control opportunities based on benefit assessment.
  • Provide technical consulting and formal and informal training; develop related documentation, standards, and procedures.
  • Lead and provide technical expertise for new, revamped, and maintained site APC applications, including polymer transition managers.
  • Evaluate and test new process-control technologies and develop execution strategies for technologies expected to drive differentiated outcomes.
  • Participate in and lead internal and external APC&O networks.
  • Mentor site CSE engineers to develop their skills.
  • Evaluate next-generation AI-based linear and nonlinear APC&O technologies.
  • Develop KPIs for proactive and reactive monitoring of APC&O applications.
