TractionToronto, ON
$35 - $45

About The Position

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Glazier to join our team for commercial and high-end residential projects. This role is designed for a technical professional who holds or is looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE). As a Glazier, you are responsible for the glass systems that define the modern Canadian skyline. Whether you are a certified Journeyperson or a senior apprentice in the final stages of your training, you will be expected to uphold the Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS), ensuring that every curtain wall, storefront, and glass assembly is installed with structural integrity and weather-tight precision.

Requirements

  • Certification Status: Must be a Journeyperson or a Senior Apprentice currently looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE).
  • Technical Proficiency: Expert knowledge of glazing systems, thermal breaks, and the structural properties of glass.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy glass units (up to 35kg+ with assistance) and work comfortably at heights and in all weather conditions.
  • Mathematical Competency: Precision in calculating dimensions, angles, and hardware clearances.
  • Attention to Detail: An eye for clean lines, perfectly mitered corners, and flawless sealant application.
  • Driver’s License: Valid Class 5 license with a clean driving abstract.

Responsibilities

  • Site Assessment & Layout: Interpret blueprints and architectural drawings to determine the size, type, and thickness of glass required. Perform precise field measurements for custom glass applications.
  • Fabrication & Assembly: Cut, fit, and install metal frames (aluminum, steel, or stainless) for windows, storefronts, and curtain walls. Assemble components using specialized gaskets, sealants, and fasteners.
  • Glass Installation: Safely handle and install various glass products, including insulated glass units (IGUs), tempered, laminated, and coated architectural glass.
  • Specialized Systems: Install skylights, glass railings, heavy glass shower doors, mirrors, and specialty hardware like automatic door closers and panic bars.
  • Building Envelope Integrity: Apply primers and caulking to ensure thermal performance and moisture protection. Ensure all installations meet the requirements for air and water infiltration.
  • Rigging & Hoisting: Utilize specialized equipment such as suction cups, power vacuums, and cranes to safely move and position large or heavy glass lites, especially at heights.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to strict OH&S regulations, including fall protection and the safe operation of swing stages and aerial work platforms.
  • Mentorship: If certified, supervise and sign off on the hours of junior apprentices. If finishing requirements, work with our Journeypersons to master Major Work Activities (MWAs) like curtain wall pressure caps and sloped glazing.

Benefits

  • The Final Mile: For those finishing their RSE, we offer exposure to a diverse range of projects—from intricate interior glass to massive exterior curtain walls—to ensure you are prepared for the Interprovincial Exam.
  • Competitive Compensation: Wages that reflect your status as a nationally certified expert and the specialized risks of the trade.
  • National Mobility: An RSE credential that is recognized in every province and territory, ensuring your skills are in high demand across Canada.
