About The Position

Trident Consulting is seeking a Glass Layer Tech Lead for a client. This is a remote, one-year W2 contract assignment with the possibility of extension. The role owns backend design and service boundaries while remaining hands-on, conducting design and code reviews, mentoring engineers, managing dependencies, and ensuring production readiness. The primary focus is the EBC backend and runtime, including APIs, session and identity context, integrations, and reliable delivery of data and AI responses. The position covers secure and governed service development; observability and operational readiness; comprehensive testing and quality gates; automated CI/CD and release processes; and cloud infrastructure on GCP. It also involves backend integrations with knowledge-graph interfaces, conversational AI and retrieval systems, BigQuery data services, and UI and AI gateway components.

Requirements

  • Advanced Python.
  • Advanced SQL and BigQuery experience.
  • Experience with REST and streaming APIs, asynchronous processing, session and workflow-state management, retries, timeouts, caching, schema validation, and structured error handling.
  • Knowledge of API-first design, Apigee, authentication and authorization, user-context propagation, versioned contracts, and rate limiting.
  • Knowledge of GCP, GKE, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, service accounts, secrets, workload identity, networking, DNS, load balancing, and private connectivity.
  • Knowledge of secure coding and governance practices, including least privilege, secrets management, masking, audit logging, and sensitive-data protection.
  • Experience with observability and operations practices such as logging, metrics, distributed tracing, alerting, incident response, root-cause analysis, recovery, and support runbooks.
  • Knowledge of testing approaches including unit, integration, contract, regression, performance, load, and resilience testing.
  • Ability to integrate backend services with semantic and graph interfaces.
  • Working knowledge of conversational AI, agent integration, structured response payloads, citations, and graceful handling of unavailable downstream services.

Responsibilities

  • Own backend design and service boundaries while remaining hands-on.
  • Conduct design and code reviews.
  • Mentor engineers.
  • Manage dependencies and production readiness.
  • Build and support EBC backend/runtime capabilities, APIs, session and identity context, integrations, and reliable delivery of data and AI responses.
  • Apply secure coding and governance practices, including least privilege, identity propagation, secrets management, masking, audit logging, and protection of sensitive data.
  • Implement observability and operational practices, including logging, metrics, distributed tracing, dashboards, alerting, SLIs, incident response, root-cause analysis, recovery, and support runbooks.
  • Develop and maintain unit, integration, contract, regression, performance, load, and resilience testing, including automated quality gates.
  • Support automated build, test, deployment, promotion, rollback, credential rotation, and environment management.
  • Work with GCP infrastructure, including GKE, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, service accounts, secrets, workload identity, networking, DNS, load balancing, and private connectivity.
  • Integrate backend services with semantic and graph interfaces.
  • Support conversational AI and agent integrations, structured response payloads, citations, and graceful handling of unavailable downstream services.
  • Develop data services using advanced SQL and BigQuery, including curated and authorized views, query optimization, result transformation, pagination, filtering, masking, and role-aware delivery.
  • Design APIs and integrations using Apigee, authentication and authorization, user-context propagation, versioned contracts, and rate limiting; integrate with UI, AI gateways, agents, BigQuery, and Stardog.
  • Develop backend services in Python, including REST and streaming APIs, asynchronous processing, session and workflow-state management, retries, timeouts, caching, schema validation, and structured error handling.
