About The Position

A fast-growing life sciences organization on the San Francisco Peninsula is seeking a skilled GL Accountant to support its finance team. This role focuses on maintaining accurate general ledger records, supporting month-end and quarter-end close, and ensuring the integrity of financial data in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to a Series C startup in the life sciences sector while working closely with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience performing similar GL accounting tasks, including journal entries, reconciliations, and close activities.
  • Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting and reconciliation processes.
  • Proficiency with Netsuite accounting software.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables.
  • Experience with NetSuite for general ledger and financial operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial review.
  • Ability to support month-end and quarter-end close activities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a similar field preferred.
  • Experience with NetSuite and Bill.com. (NetSuite mandatory)
  • Experience with Point Purchasing or similar purchasing systems preferred.
  • Experience supporting organizations in the life sciences, biotech, medical device, or pharmaceutical sectors preferred.
  • Experience working with or supporting a fast-growing startup environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and evolving processes in a growth-stage company.

Responsibilities

  • Enter financial data and transactions accurately into the general ledger.
  • Record cash entries and ensure they are properly documented and classified.
  • Prepare and perform cash reconciliations to ensure completeness and accuracy of records.
  • Review financial documents, accounts, and supporting information for accuracy and compliance with internal policies.
  • Support month-end and quarter-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules, supporting documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Prepare journal entries for fixed assets, prepaids, accounts payable, and standard accruals.
  • Verify general ledger coding for all transactions to ensure proper classification and consistency.
  • Manage new vendor setup for accounts payable, including collection and verification of required information.
  • Resolve accounting-related issues and discrepancies by researching transactions, collaborating with internal stakeholders, and proposing corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to improve processes and enhance the accuracy and efficiency of financial reporting.
