About The Position

The GIS Technologist plays a key role in maintaining and improving the accuracy of GrandBridge Energy’s Geographic Information System (GIS) environment, primarily within Esri ArcGIS and AutoCAD Map 3D. This position focuses on the ongoing editing, validation, maintenance, and quality assurance of distribution asset and mapping data used across Operations and Engineering teams. This role is responsible for creating and updating digital maps, managing spatial and non-spatial data, performing field verification checks, and ensuring the integrity and reliability of GIS records and related systems. The GIS Technologist supports daily operational needs through accurate data maintenance, map production, troubleshooting, and collaboration with internal departments and external stakeholders. This position will report to our Brantford Location.

Requirements

  • 3-Year Community College diploma in Geographical Information System or Engineering/Electrical Technician with GIS experience, or equivalent training and experience is required.
  • Two years GIS experience in Esri ArcGIS and AutoCAD Map 3D required.
  • Knowledge of GIS systems, ArcGIS, FME, and SQL queries.
  • Knowledge of electrical fundamentals, distribution system configuration, and equipment.
  • Demonstrates good understanding of system integration between GIS and OMS, ADMS, CIS and MDM systems
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License with a clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding of programming or scripting languages such as Python, Arcade, HTML, or JavaScript is considered an asset.
  • Project Management and training experience.

Responsibilities

  • Create, edit, maintain, and validate GIS mapping and distribution asset data within Esri ArcGIS and AutoCAD Map 3D environments.
  • Assists in database management in all GIS related databases; Oracle, Access, and SQL Server
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control checks on GIS data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
  • Develop, deploy and maintain Esri mobile Apps to support Operations and Engineering teams.
  • Coordinate and process GPS data and general field data collection and perform field checks on utility assets to ensure accuracy of GIS systems
  • Administer electronic map usage and resolve map discrepancies.
  • Coordinate with third-party consultants, municipalities, and utility agencies regarding mapping updates, asset changes, data enhancements, reports, and GIS-related corporate projects.
  • Provide vendors with software supply and support contracts, and to resolve issues as they arise with respect to both hardware and software.
  • Coordinate and implement activities for the conversion, from various manual and electronic records.
  • Perform weekly, or as needed, data conversion into the Outage Management System, including any troubleshooting and data clean-up.
  • Provide leadership in the development of change management initiatives, staff training, and enhancements.
  • Liaise with ITS department, Autodesk, and other consultants for support of GIS.
  • Participate in interdepartmental meetings to provide GIS insight and solutions for various organization tasks
  • Research and recommend improvements upon current GIS programs and reporting tools generated from the GIS
  • Stay current with GIS technologies and industry best practices to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with documentation of work processes within the GIS and greater Grid Modernization department
  • Work with spatial and non-spatial attributes through different departments and systems to generate maps and reports
  • Provide training and documentation support to Operations and Engineering teams for programs and projects
