About The Position

Under directive supervision, the NG GIS Technologist I supports the operation and maintenance of the company GIS application for the Natural Gas Business Unit by maintaining, reporting, and posting work or by gathering data to be input by others. The NG GIS Technologist I is the first level of the classification series, and incumbents at this level are expected to work independently, or as part of a team, under close-to-moderate supervision, and to develop to advance their skills. This role involves applying technical expertise in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems in the area of expertise, ensuring the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective time and work management. It requires a beginning level of knowledge in understanding and interpreting complex design drawings, property plats, maps, and other related information as necessary to post data in the Company GIS system. The position also involves generating and maintaining GIS-generated operations maps, performing Quality Control of team members' standard work, assisting with internal and external training and the creation of job aids, conducting GIS and related studies, and striving to continually improve job-related, technical, and professional knowledge, skills, and performance. The role includes performing work of a higher classification when preparing for advancement, developing positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities, demonstrating effective oral and written communication skills, and maintaining accurate records and files. The individual will support the company's goals and represent the company positively and professionally. Performing other similar or less skilled work as assigned. This is a hybrid position, with work performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in GIS (or related field) OR Bachelor's Degree in GIS (or related field) OR at least 4 years GIS working experience without a degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of Quality Control / Quality Assurance processes.
  • Must be willing to be subject to D.O.T. drug testing.
  • Must meet the Company’s requirements as to GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS.

Nice To Haves
