About The Position

The City of Cibolo is seeking a highly motivated GIS Technician. The GIS Technician will collect, create, update, and perform QA/QC on new and existing Water/Wastewater GIS data using ESRI, MS Office 365, Trimble, and Android/Apple-based products. This position also maintains a current repository of data from various external sources, provides GIS support to end users, and produces high-quality outputs for both internal and external users. This position is under the general supervision of the Director of Information Services with work directed by the GIS Manager.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Planning, or related field.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience, including ESRI ArcGIS software and survey-grade GPS technology.
• Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office 365 products, ArcGIS Online, and ESRI ArcGIS Pro.
• Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with CAD files (DWG/DFXF) preferred, not required.
• Basic knowledge of programming and scripting languages used in the GIS field, such as Python and Arcade, preferred, not required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a variety of authoritative datasets and hosted GIS layers critical to the daily operations of the city’s Public Works department, including water and drainage utilities, sewer infrastructure, street networks, local parks, public buildings, and other utility services and features.
• Interpret and transfer data from source documents, including digital and/or printed record drawings, as-built plans, profiles, and legal descriptions.
• Locate and compile data from a variety of sources.
• Perform quality control on incoming and existing GIS data; researches and corrects data issues.
• Collect and/or oversee the collection of field data using GPS, including fieldwork, post-processing, and integration with current datasets.
• As directed, may support city staff in the use of GIS-related and integrated programs to accomplish and support intra-departmental and inter-departmental projects and programs.
• As directed, may draft special project exhibits and/or run specialized geographic analyses for utility operations.
• As directed, may create and maintain documentation for GIS geodatabase, shapefiles, applications, and procedures while following data preparation standards and procedures to ensure data standardization and integrity.
• Follow data preparation standards and procedures to ensure data standardization and integrity.
• Manipulates geographic data from shapefiles, geodatabases, KML, CSV, and other file types, prepares reports, responds to inquiries, and distributes data to internal and external entities as needed.
• Manage data and applications in ArcGIS Online and similar cloud-based applications.
• Transform data that may be in different coordinate systems and formats.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
