About The Position

The GIS Technician is responsible for inputting designs into Esri or client-specific GIS systems, ensuring adherence to feature classes and attribution standards. This role involves creating connectivity in the GIS system using splicing documentation, posting as-built plant records, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure quality and timely delivery. The technician will also drive profitability by maintaining accurate plant records and statuses for efficient invoicing. Key responsibilities include staying current with scope changes, communicating project updates, and adhering to design and quality control timelines. The role requires validating field data, attending meetings, drawing status polygons, and submitting daily timesheets. Additionally, the GIS Technician will perform in-depth GIS analysis and other duties as assigned by the GIS Lead or Engineering Manager.

  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage time based on production metrics.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Must be proficient in Esri software.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and complete tasks assigned in a timely manner.
  • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug test and background check.

  • Proficient in Python Scripting
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, or a related degree
  • Two years of experience in telecommunication, OSP, or with a public or private utility.

Responsibilities

  • Input of designs into Esri or client-specific GIS system, adhering to the correct feature classes and entering the appropriate attribution per client or Squan standards.
  • Uses a value-based engineering approach to provide feedback on design/routing/environment decisions to create an efficient, quality, constructable permit drawing.
  • Creates connectivity in the GIS system using splicing documentation provided by others that is accurate and aligns with the splicing plan.
  • Post as-built plant records based on construction daily reports and/or redline drawings.
  • Works closely with internal construction, peer designers or drafters, design lead, and design manager to ensure quality and timely delivery.
  • Drives profitability by creating accurate plant records and up-to-date statuses that align with the appropriate schema and allow for efficient invoicing processes.
  • Stays current with scope changes and understands the scope applicable to the work being performed.
  • Communicates with permit coordinators/design leads and keeps project tracker(s) current up to the hour.
  • Adheres to the timelines for design, drafting, permit creation, quality control, and all other tasks.
  • Collaborates with the permit coordinator, design lead, and engineering manager to overcome obstacles that prevent the timely delivery of a quality product.
  • Focuses on high-level customer interaction with both internal and external customers.
  • Validation of daily work received from the field to guarantee accuracy of both in-house and subcontractor deliverables, where applicable.
  • Attends meetings with design lead, design manager, or project manager as needed.
  • Draw and update various status polygons in GIS tools as required by the project scope.
  • Submits timesheets daily with the appropriate time coded to the project, aspect, and task.
  • Performs in depth GIS Analysis using various source files and designs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by GIS Lead or Engineering Manager.
