About The Position

ASRC Federal Technical Services is seeking six (6) GIS Technicians, all Entry-level, to join their team supporting the Census Bureau in Suitland, MD. This is a great opportunity for recent graduates with a certificate, associate's degree, or bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, or a related field that taught ArcGIS Pro, who are looking to gain experience. The position offers a remote work schedule but requires residing in the DC/MD/VA metro area. The role focuses on maintaining the accuracy and completeness of the Census MAF/TIGER Database (MTDB), including digitizing necessary changes to boundaries, streets, and addresses using Census proprietary software.

Requirements

US Citizenship and presently residing in the DC/MD/VA area.
Certificate in Cartography or GIS, an Associates degree in Geography or GIS, or a Bachelor's degree in Geography or GIS (will consider other degrees such as Environmental Science).
Coursework/ project or labs with ArcGIS (workstation and desktop); Arc View, AutoCAD Map.
Good organizational and communication skills.
Some knowledge of civil engineering, cartography surveying and drafting.
Experience with ArcGIS Pro, Imagery, and understanding of Databases.
Ability to work as a member of a team.
Ability to share GIS knowledge with other team members.
Must be a US Citizen.

Internship experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

Direct position in GIS data enhancement and maintenance using ESRI and custom GIS software.
Evaluate, edit, and check street centerline, hydrography, and other data layers (graphics and attributes), using custom map production tools.
Using computer software will include revisions and edits of GIS drawings and files, made according to instructions provided by supervisors.
Additions or deletions of highlighted boundary or shape files.
Reading instruction provided with the shape files.
Reshaping road layers that should not be overlapping with the Hydro layers.
Maintaining live spatial data in a secured environment.
Editing, modifying, and creating various data layers.
Maintain daily production schedule and work with customized data automation tools and procedures.
