About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and development of the City's geographic information system (GIS) database.

Requirements

• Knowledge and level of competency are commonly associated with the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field or equivalent years of work experience.
• Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of other GIS analysts and similar GIS positions to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
• Must possess a current and active driver’s license.
• Knowledge of current GIS software and hardware.
• Knowledge of GIS concepts and methodology.
• Knowledge of spatial editing.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and other data sources.
• Knowledge of database management principles.
• Knowledge of GPS hardware and software.
• Ability to communicate in English, both in writing and verbally.
• Skill in interpreting drawings, maps, plats, and surveys.
• Skill in the production of maps and other GIS products.
• Skill in prioritizing and planning.
• Skill in interpersonal relations.
• Skill in operating computers and job-related software programs.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Researches and tests new tools, online resources, extensions, techniques, and applications for improvements to the GIS system.
• Maintains spatial data; assists with automation of database procedures, data entry, editing, and data manipulation; ensures data quality; applies and maintains data standards for naming conventions.
• Applies cartographic principles to produce maps, images, and interactive applications.
• Provides training and support to GIS users at all levels; resolves complex issues with software; provides user support for GIS extensions, including labeling, edition, querying, joining, and selecting features; produces and exports maps.
• Develops new data layers, attributes, annotations, tools, and enhancements to databases.
• Utilizes and modifies Python scripts to automate processes.
• Prepares documents, guidelines, and metadata for project flow and tracking.
• Assists with the administration of software licenses and extensions for all GIS users.
• Performs related duties.
