Geocgi is seeking Database Engineers (Junior, Mid, and Senior levels) to support mission driven work in secure environments for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and key partners, including Esri. This role focuses on designing, managing, and optimizing databases that support large-scale applications, data workflows, and geospatial systems. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in database design, performance tuning, and data management, along with the ability to support scalable and reliable data environments. The primary onsite location will be either the NGA office at 2301 Cass Ave, St. Louis, Missouri or the NGA office at 7500 GEOINT Drive, Springfield, Virginia. Junior: 1–5 years of experience supporting database development and administration. Mid-Level: 3–10+ years of experience managing and optimizing databases independently. Senior: 5–10+ years of experience leading database architecture, performance strategy, and data solutions.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen with Active Top Secret Clearance (SCI eligible) or current within the last 2 years.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in database design, administration, and optimization.
  • Experience with databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or SAP HANA.
  • Knowledge of database design principles, maintenance & security, data loading, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with SQL and Python scripting for automation and workflows.
  • Familiarity with Linux, UNIX, or Windows environments.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to manage priorities and work effectively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with geospatial data and spatial databases.
  • Familiarity with spatial data types, coordinate systems, and spatial indexing.
  • Experience supporting federal or defense programs.
  • Familiarity with secure or classified environments.
  • Experience supporting high-availability or large-scale data systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain relational database systems (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, SAP HANA).
  • Perform database administration and optimization, including performance monitoring, tuning, and indexing.
  • Develop and support data loading and data pipeline workflows.
  • Implement and maintain backup and recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Manage database maintenance, security, and access controls.
  • Write and maintain SQL and Python scripts to automate data workflows and processes.
  • Support databases across Linux, UNIX, and Windows environments.
  • Work with geospatial data, including spatial data types, coordinate systems, and spatial indexing.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to support data-driven applications and systems.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
