GIS Coordinator

City of Charlotte•Charlotte, NC

About The Position

The GIS Coordinator administers and coordinates GIS systems and standards that support police and fire public safety CAD operations. The role ensures data quality, system reliability, and coverage across both domains, and provides technical oversight and guidance to GIS Analyst staff without formal HR-line supervisory authority. The position is a primary escalation point for complex GIS/CAD issues that may affect live dispatch operations and requires regular coordination with CMPD, CFD, other City departments, and Mecklenburg County GIS staff. Responsibilities include administering enterprise ArcGIS infrastructure and geodatabases; setting standards and overseeing quality control for GIS data used by CAD systems; coordinating county ESInet boundary data for NextGen911; supporting CAD/GIS update testing and deployment; and creating scripts, services, applications, and dashboards for public safety workflows. The position also represents public safety GIS needs in cross-departmental planning and supports emergency management planning and preparedness through mapping, analysis, and geospatial products. During a declared emergency, the Coordinator may assist with GIS functions and may be required to work extended or irregular hours. The role requires sound judgment in resolving issues affecting live dispatch, effective communication and collaboration with technical and non-technical partners, and the ability to guide staff, review work quality, and coordinate competing priorities. Candidates must meet one of the stated education and experience combinations. The City conducts background checks and requires final candidates to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical examination; skills tests or other assessments may also be part of the selection process.
