About The Position

Under general supervision, performs entry and interpretation of information into GIS or CAD software and related equipment. This role involves working with engineering drawings, databases, and various software to create, modify, and maintain maps, drawings, and reports. The position requires collaboration with engineers and field personnel, and occasional site visits to observe conditions. Responsibilities span across GIS, Design, Survey, and Construction Management functions, ensuring accurate data representation and project documentation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 15 college credit hours in design drafting, computer-aided drafting, or related fields, with at least 6 credit hours in Computer-Aided Drafting or Cartography
  • Two years of practical experience in GIS or CAD
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering drawing, CAD and cartographic principles, procedures and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of the ESRI ArcGIS environment and working knowledge of relational databases.
  • Thorough knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Survey field experience and familiarity with data collector software and GPS.
  • Experience with property research and plotting legal descriptions.
  • Considerable skill in forming and maintaining effective working relationships, both internally and externally with Engineers and Designers; skill in maintaining records and preparing reports.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state in which employee resides.
  • Must pass a Non-D.O.T. Drug Test for this position.
  • Employees of MSD must have a meets expectations performance rating.

  • Familiarity with hydrology and hydraulics.

Responsibilities

  • Using industry standard GIS software and equipment, analyze, input, develop and maintain an Engineering Construction Database using complex Engineering Drawings and associated data from a variety of Engineering, Surveying, and other sources.
  • Prepare and present drawings, maps, charts, and analytical reports from this database as requested by District personnel.
  • Organize, maintain, track, archive and restore data files as needed.
  • Communicate with Engineers on data analysis, data processing and report generation issues.
  • Develop simple software customization as required.
  • Occasionally visit field to observe and record actual field and construction conditions.
  • Using industry standard CAD and office software and equipment, and data from a variety of sources, create and modify Civil Engineering or survey drawings, specifications and exhibits.
  • Perform calculations and prepare maps.
  • Produce drawings and data for input into an Engineering Construction Database and GIS.
  • Utilize maps and data from the GIS to prepare plans, exhibits and customized maps.
  • Assist in coordinating and scheduling work load.
  • Be familiar with GPS and other survey equipment and have some survey field experience to fill in and/or assist the field crews when needed.
  • Using industry standard CAD and office software and equipment along with working inside the Accela software to provide a review and approval of submitted As built plans from private development projects.
  • Capital Construction project as built plans are also reviewed to provide final payment measurements for Construction Management.
  • Coordination with GIS so that Approved as built plans are placed on properly on the MSD basemap.
