About The Position

The GIS Analyst is responsible for undertaking a wide range of GIS related tasks, such as providing high quality maps, conducting spatial analysis, writing reports, giving training and technical support to the department staff, Cree communities and other Cree entities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geomatics or related field.
  • One to three years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS software.
  • Fluency in verbal Cree.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Good knowledge of GIS software and database design principles.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple projects.
  • Strong judgment and proven ability to problem-solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with geographic field work and Global Positioning System data collection methodologies is preferred.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Research, acquire, compile and update GIS data from various sources.
  • Review, organize, manipulate, and summarize existing or incoming data for currency, accuracy, usefulness, quality, or completeness of documentation.
  • Participate in data collection through mapping interviews with Cree land users.
  • Digitize and process data collection materials.
  • Design or prepare graphic representation of GIS data, using maps, graphs, or tabular formats for effective presentation of information.
  • Perform geospatial analysis to support the mandate of the department.
  • Develop and maintain GIS applications such as web maps and mapping applications.
  • Provide training and technical support to staff, Cree communities and other Cree entities.
  • Distribute, install and authorize GIS products for Cree Nation Government staff, Cree communities and other Cree Entities.
  • Respond to GIS requests in collaboration with the Coordinator of GIS Database and the Director of Environment and Remedial Works.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of an Enterprise GIS for the Environment department.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of GIS data management standards.
  • Collaborate with department staff, other Cree Nation Government’s departments, Cree communities, and external clients to define data needs, project requirements, and desired outputs.
  • Take part in discussions related to team objectives.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in area(s) of responsibility.
  • Perform other duties as required.
