NOAA's National Geodetic Survey (NGS) provides the framework for all positioning activities in the Nation, including foundational elements like latitude, longitude, elevation, and shoreline information. NGS is responsible for surveying and reviewing thousands of U.S. airports for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) through the NGS Aeronautical Survey Program (ASP). This position involves working with NGS and FAA to understand their strategic goals, including regulations, specifications, and standards related to aeronautical surveys. The role encompasses reviewing and validating third-party airport survey data for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to FAA standards. It also includes documenting changes to runways, ensuring the accuracy of airfields' geoid models, processing field-collected data to determine if airfields meet necessary safety standards, and cross-referencing survey data against FAA databases, GIS datasets, and legacy records to identify discrepancies. The planner will interpret and apply FAA Advisory Circular 150/5300-18B specifications, perform data reviews using GIS tools like ArcGIS Pro and Google Earth Pro, assist in developing strategic plans, support database improvements, collaborate on workflow enhancements, and aim to become a recognized expert in the professional aeronautical survey community.
